    Contemporary Non-Anglo Authors

Albert Campus made me smile. I want to read more in Dutch. Any thoughts on that?

I'm afraid you're too late for that. Behold exhibits A and B.

    Pride and Prejudice

I doubt with Keira Knightley they'll achieve that though.

    Frank Miller: Sin City

For once, a movie made me want to read a (comic) book! I only recently started reading (and collecting), but I think I really like it. The repetitiveness of some of the lines sometimes bothers me, but I'm having a hoot reading these "graphic novels". (Ahem.)

    Philippa Gregory: The Virgin Lover

Because there has been so much talk about Philippa Gregory on TBF lately (cf. Philippa Gregory and The Other Boleyn Girl) and because I do like historical fiction, I thought I should maybe give The Virgin's Lover a try. It was a fairly quick read and the subject matter did intrigue me, but I...

    Does spelling still count?

I honestly don't know why. Wikipedia says In order to keep the system relevant to changing usage, Dutch orthography is modernised at regular intervals. In cross-border co-operation between the Netherlands and Flanders, the "Nederlandse Taalunie" regulates orthography on an official basis. The...

    Does spelling still count?

I was wondering: does the English spelling ever get changed? Cause the Dutch spelling got changed again recently (they do it every 10 years or so) and I was wondering if maybe we were the only ones really doing that. It's hard to write correctly this way.

    Philippa Gregory

I'm reading The Virgin's Lover. I've been able to get over Gregory's writing style (which I did not like at all), but I still want to slap that Amy woman after 250 pages.

    Dan Simmons

I've never actually given Simmons a chance. His name turns me off for some reason. For anyone who's interested in more in depth discussions of Simmons's books, there are two TBF threads already that would welcome some discussion: Hyperion and Ilium.

'Amelie' director to helm 'Life of Pi' film

    Schlock? Interesting statement.

Susanna Clarke: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

I finished reading Strange & Norrell yesterday and I must say I enjoyed it very much. The ending was a bit anticlimactic I thought, but it didn't really bother me so much.

    Paul Theroux

You've probably read the first post in this thread before, but I thought I'd point it out anyway.

    William S. Burroughs: Naked Lunch

I've only read Junky myself, so I can't really say. (This doesn't exactly answer you're question, but maybe you'll find it interesting.)

"Mom delivers 16th child" - Is there something wrong with this?

It's not, Moto. If you want people that have 16 children to adopt, then you should want people to have just 3 (or 2, or 1) to adopt too.

    The Great Pumpkin Hoax

We don't celebrate Halloween... though there are a few Halloween parties (just another reason to get drunk I guess). My mother makes pumpkin soup in autumn though... She just buys the pumpkin (one is usually enough) from the farmer down the road.

"Mom delivers 16th child" - Is there something wrong with this?

Is bringing 16 of your own children into this world so different from having 3 children of your own? I don't think so. So why do you consider the parents of 16 selfish? I don't get it.

    Songs Inspired By Literature

I heard one of his songs yesterday. Sufjan is such a funny name, by the way.
