Maybe it isn't what it says that is nonsensical (depending on your point of view of the whole matter) but, like Abu says, the way that they instantly jumped to their conclusions. In the Tomb of God, everything is proved before they move on. Anyone who is familiar with Esoteric Geometics can see...
If you want to read into it all further, try 'The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail' by Michael Baigent (among other authors). Some might say this is fiction in its own right, but it was an extremely controversial non-fiction book when first released. For a more scientific account (with heavy use of...
Hmmm, quite a few historical authors have tried the King Arthur story. Of these, you may like to try Bernard Cornwell's trilogy or the trilogy by Helen Hollick. Both are superb and very gritty. Rosalind Miles has written some books from the perspective of Guinevere, but I have not tried these...
I read Neverwhere after catching one of the TV programmes and thought it was superb - a dark, modern fairytale. Every time you figured you had it all sussed, he would throw something else in and send your mind whirling. I'm also a fan of his short stories in Smoke and Mirrors - the short story...
The Wrong Boy - Willy Russell. Page 408
'It seemed all wrong really; somewhere at the back of my head, it just seemed wrong, everybody dressed up like that and having a funeral for my Gran. It was a good job she was dead! That's what I said to them, in the back of the big black limousine; I...
A fair point, True, but I was looking for opinions and thought someone had written something interesting and was then disappointed when all it mentioned was the fact someone hadn't read it. Pointless. Unnecessary.
I'm sure she meant no harm by it, but I've seen this sort of thing a couple of...
*makes a face*.
What was the point of that post? I wanted to hear the opinions of people who had read it, not have a list of people who hadn't.......
Methinks that was just an effort to get a post count higher, and that sort of stuff bores me.
Ice, you are a kindred spirit! That was exactly the reason I started reading them - I kicked off with Riders when I was about thirteen and was a mite surprised by some of what I was reading about. But I had also brought it because of the reference to horses and show-jumping.
My overhyped book is a fantasy series by a guy called Ricardo Pinto. The first book is called 'The Chosen' and it was the biggest pile of rubbish I've read! And this book got five stars all over the place...
Novella, I concur with your opinions on both Bridget Jones and The Nanny Diaries - very succinct reviews, and exactly what I thought! In fact, Bridget was one of those rare things - a film better than the book it was inspired by...
And, IMO, you should dip into fantasy. Some of it is truly...
I'm into blind patriotism! I was in London (yes, the lovely Central London bit) just recently and I stopped just to hear Big Ben chime. Awww, it swells the heart ;)
I love London to visit, but I couldn't live in London. Too expensive. I adore Charing Cross Road - especially that Romance...
Freya,
It doesn't upset me, no. Well, the thought of a fire leaves me with a feeling of icy dread, but I've paid extra on my insurance to cover them, so I'd have the fun of buying them all again (in the same format - I currently have some series that start in paperback and complete in...
Sillywabbit,
On the day I have nothing to do, I will type up my to read list for your viewing pleasure. However, with the amount of books I have to read, there is never a day when I have nothing to do! ;)
From your list, I have read Memoirs of a Geisha and thought it was a touching and...
I was wondering who else has read 'The Pursuit of Happiness' by Douglas Kennedy?
IMO, this was a stunning and melancholic book and one that I would highly recommend, but I also sense other people could be less enamoured of it.
What are other people's opinions?
Ah, Thea's is the original list you've commented on, Novella!
My 'to read' list doesn't look half as intellectual as that :) . A lot of mine comprises chick lit and fantasy novels, although Heller and Marquez are two that do feature. My Heller 'to read' novel is Something Happened. I was...
Likewise, magemanda has made me feel a bit better too. There's always someone worse off than you!
It's strange, because I don't see it as a bad thing at all :)
After all, I'm never stuck for anything to read!
No, no Novella - I should perhaps apologise for the tone of my reply. Maybe it's just embarrassment because I have read, and enjoyed, work by Jackie Collins, Jilly Cooper etc ;) :o
And a hug from me. I once had an online friend who left very abruptly after we had an argument and it's almost worse when that happens because you have no other way of getting in contact and clearing the air.
I say, get out of the house, get some fresh air, and come back when you feel...
