    Laugh Out Loud Funny

Jasper Fforde is my new laugh-out-loud funny man. His Thursday Next series starts with The Eyre Affair.

Susanna Clarke: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

I loved it, personally. Loved the language and the footnotes littered through the story. Thought the characters were wonderfully done and very Dickensian. And the imagination behind it all was just superb.

    Funny book?

Roald Dahl's adult short stories are superb as well. He's written a number of collections.

    Tanya Huff: Keeper Series

I know that some people do think that Huff made a mistake with the route she followed, and the love triangle is certainly not as it was! But I think what she did was far braver than what she could have done. Hmmm, this is all coming across very cryptic, but I don't want to spoil it for...

Lending books... and getting them back

I have only one person that I exchange books with. We share books that we've enjoyed with each other and, because we're both giving out books, we figure we'll receive them back (if I don't I guess I could keep their book hostage until I receive my own back!)

How long before you give up on a book??

I've got a horrible habit of trying to finish any book, regardless of how awful the start is. This is because of those couple of books that have started out dull, but ended up picking up towards the end. I think there have only been a handful that I really couldn't face all the way to the end.

    The Black Magician Trilogy

I liked it, but I've read better fantasy :) . I mean, I prefer Maggie Furey, who seems to write in a similar 'voice'. I have a definite spectrum of fantasy authors I've read. David Gemmell would be pretty much near the top, and someone like Sara Douglass or Elizabeth Haydon would be near the...

    Tanya Huff: Keeper Series

It follows Tony, friend to Vicki and Henry. I whipped through Tanya's Blood series and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the 4th and 5th book. I thought that Ms. Huff was pretty brave with the route she followed for Vicki and Henry's relationship (but no more will I say!)

Fiction involving animals (and deffo not in a rude way!)

I'm not sure Cujo is my thing! But thanks to everyone for your many and varied suggestions - definitely a number of those will be added to my reading list!

    Anita Schreve

Think I've got the spelling right... Okay, I was highly recommended a book by this female author called 'The Last Time They Met'. I mean, the person who recommended it said 'you have *got* to read this book, but I can't discuss it with you until you're done'. I mean, they absolutely raved. So...

    Style of book help!!!

Those three aren't really what I would term chick lit though! Chick lit is the current publishing phenomenon whereby female (and sometimes male) authors publish a book a year which always feature covers with pastel shades. Here's a few authors your girlfriend may like to try: Fiona Walker...

Dan Brown: The Da Vinci Code

Also, it meant he could info dump about a few more things, in the explanation of the estrangement.
