Which films or books have challenged the way you think?

I am quite envious of the dutch way of life, to an english person it comes across as very laid back & open minded. Admittedly, it would take more then a film to make me truly query reality, but I enjoy ones which merely give you at least slightly different viewpoint for a moment - excellent...

    Supersize Me

Also, whilst people say they've known for years the bad effect such food can have, even the doctors were astounded by how badly it affected him so rapidly. I do think his gf releasing the diet is going to far though.

Why is it so bloody hard ..

A very good point, when I think about the films that used to make me laugh it was more because I was younger & hadn't matured yet or acquired a more discerning taste. I look forward to seeing what some people can come up with though, as I'm sure there are quite a few gems I just can't think of...

Which films or books have challenged the way you think?

ISO: Thought provoking films or books Whilst discussing in another thread about films, it started me thinking about thought provoking books & films . A strong example I can think of is The Matrix or AI. I love to watch a film which you come away from still questioning so any things & would...

Why is it so bloody hard ..

Likewise, I tend not to like the Farelly Brothers film, they seem to think simply using toilet humour or trying to gross people out is funny. I agree with you that it's very difficult to find a genuinely funny movie nowadays.

    War Of The Worlds

I particularly liked the special edition one where they have Spielberg talking about how he wanted Teddy to sound like Eeyore & his own perspective on how we need to be careful when making artificial intelligence. I really liked AI, thought it was quite an intelligent film & I enjoy films which...

Why is it so bloody hard ..

Films which make me laugh include: Dogma, Zoolander, Mystery Men, Wayne's World (the first few years after it as released - it's not ageing too well), anything in which Keanu Reeves thinks he can genuinely act (esp him in Dracula)

    Supersize Me

Has anyone seen that his girlfriend has now released a book containing the diet she used to detox him after Supersize Me finished?

    War Of The Worlds

One of the things that really made me want to watch AI was Kubrick's involvement in it & Spielberg's (alleged) determination to ensure the film was as Kubrick would have wanted. (Nothing to do with Jude Law - honest)

    Trailers

In the two films I mentioned it was more down to the scipt then him personally, but then I do absolutely adore Zoolander & anyone could have been Mugatu & I would still have laughed

    War Of The Worlds

I haven't watched it, guess I got caught up in all the press when it was released that implied it was a load of drive & as I didn't much rate him as an actor I was more than happy to believe that. Since then, I've heard from a few people who seem to hve very valid opinions that it is worth...

    Trailers

I liked him in Zoolander and Jay & Silent Bob, but otherwise I think he is seriously overrated.

    War Of The Worlds

Maybe it's from becoming a teenager in the late 80's when all my friends fancied him, or the fact that for over a decade he kept playing roughly the same character all the time: top of his profession, crisis of confidence, girl comes along & make everything better. More then anything I think...

    War Of The Worlds

Allegedly, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory was so named because Roald Dahl did not like it & didn't want it to be too closely associated with the book, whereas Tim Burton claims he is trying to make a film which follows the book much more closely & captures the book's "atmosphere" With...

    Any recomendations for psychological thrillers?

I've got to the point where horror just doesn't seem to scare or even unnerve me anymore, so I want to try out some psychological thrillers (Silence of the Lambs type) as I really like the film genre. I was hoping people here might be able to recommend some worthwhile books to me. So far...

    Trailers

Now you come to mention it, that's happen with me quite a few times, especially if it's a psychological thriller or a horror & all the trailers are growly voice man or the "we're only going to show loads of clips of people only partially dressed, because there is no plot or story" ones.

    Internet Lurrrve.

I would love to say I was only there to also insult the Robbie Williams fans, but in all honesty it's because I had a HUGE crush on his bass player (not the woman he has now) *hides face in shame* I agree that people can very easily choose exactly which persona they want to convey online, but...

    Internet Lurrrve.

I met my husband via the internet, there was a chat room I used to frequently go to & he'd turn up mainly to try & wind people up & insult them. I found it funny how his sarcasm mainly flew over the top of most people's heads. Admittedly, it was a Robbie Williams chatroom, so it's not all that...
