Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go

Do you mean to say that the flatness of the writing reflected the attitudes of the main characters in the story, even the supporting characters?

Voting: May 2006 Book of the Month

So what happens if there is a tie? Not that one of the two books could ultimately pull ahead in the next couple of days.

Art Spiegelman: Maus: A Survivor's Tale

I read both parts of Maus for a Holocaust history course I took during the Fall of 2001 (had to miss Bush's excellent speech on the Thursday after 9/11 cause my class was in the evening and I forgot to tape it). Anyways, it definately drew me into the human element of the Holocaust and how it...

Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go

I am about three chapters from completing the book and I am confused as I was when I first started the novel, not to say that some of the explanations that I have read here have helped in understanding what the novel is about. What I have found interesting about the book is Kathy's detachment...

    Why read books?

I read because I enjoy reading, not because I need to be entertained. So I answered the final answer.

What have you read in March?

I do have to agree that this thread should really be started in the last week of whatever month that we are posting this for, but I do see why some of us post when we do, as sometimes we forget what we have read and want to not forget what we have read. I have finish reading Last Light; it...

TV shows I've lost interest in

I must be a rare bird, as I have latched onto some shows so badly that I am obsessed with them and have watched nearly every episode of them. I am talking about Third Watch, Survivor, The Amazing Race, Prison Break (who returns with a new episode tonight, yay!!), The West Wing, and Grey's...

    Book nerd level

I make of list of books that I want to read every couple of months. And I also have a bunch of stickies with books in a series that I want to read. I also have a bunch of books that I haven't read, which are still in excellent condition (haven't opened them yet) lying around in my room... I...

    Book nerd level

I guess one thing that I do that is odd is that most times when I get a book from a bookstore, not a second hand one, is that I get a new bookmark to go with my new book. And it has to go with the new book, ie, the tassel at the end has to coordinate with my book. I also tend to bring more...

    Recently Purchased/Borrowed

I went to a used bookstore the other day and bought a book in their new arrivals shelf (the brand new books section). I got In Cold Blood. It was about $22, but I really wanted it and just couldn't get my mind away from getting it. And yes, I looked to see if they had a used copy, but I...

    Do you read non-fiction?

Having a Bachelor's degree in history, I tend to read books on historical events or historical figures. One of the fascinating non-fiction books I read a few years back was called Victoria's Daughters, which looked at the lives of each of Queen Victoria's daughters. I also read a fascinating...

What would you classify it as?

I bought In Cold Blood by Truman Capote today (found it at a bookstore I like to shop at) and was wondering how this book would be classified as. I have seen it as being classified as being True Crime. Is this correct?

    Hello Book Forums

Welcome to the forum. :) I can't believe that you have read both The Odyessey and The Illiad and that you are 14 to boot  At 14, I had read Jane Eyre, but nothing else much beyond that. There seems to much more quality fiction for teens around now.
