In answer to the topic question...
I strongly suggest reading either Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, or Perdido Street Station by China Miéville. Both are excellent books, so look them up on amazon.com
China Miéville!
I'm reading Perdido Street Station at the moment. What a masterpiece! Next up, I'm trying to decide between a number of books, but I'll probably end up reading either Number9Dream, Going After Cacciato, Requiem for a Dream, The Gunslinger, or The Diamond Age.
Which one do you...
funes,
I've heard mixed opinions on The Diamond Age, but I'm pretty confident I will enjoy it. I read Zodiac as well, recently, so I've gotten used to Stephenson's writing style.
But, I heard from many people as well that Cryptonomicon was VERY different, and written like a whole new person...
So what's the first topic?
Great, it looks like we may be able to do some good work together. So what should we make the first topic about? An introduction to new readers?
Mine is:
The Gunslinger by Stephen King
The Scar by China Miéville
Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson
The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson
Battle Royale by Koushun Takami
Requiem for a Dream by Hurbert Selby Jr.
Number9Dream by David Mitchell
Going After Cacciato by Tim O'Brien
Dune by...
Let's see...I'd have to say:(in no particular order)
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin
Perdido Street Station by China Miéville
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Foundation series by Isaac Asimov
Have you read the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin? Those are spectacular fantasy books set in a medieval setting. They're much darker, and more adult books. Filled with politics, intrigue, assassination, battles, and more...
It's another awesome book!
It really is, and I really suggest suggest picking this up. It's no Tolkien ripoff, this is some awesome modern fantasy. I'm eager to pick up his second book set in this world, The Scar!
I don't like to limit myself to genres. I read everything and anything, as long as it interests me, but my most read genre is scifi and fantasy...
I'm currently reading Perdido Street Station, which is a breathtaking read, I suggest picking it up if you haven't already.
Thanks for the warm...
I'm currently in the middle of this amazing novel...
It took a while to pick up, but when it did...IT DID...!
Miéville's prose is excellent, with some nicely picked words, his action scenes were brilliantly described.
This book has just picked up, and I'm hoping it will keep up just as...
It's a very different type of modern fantasy, by Neil Gaiman, dealing with mythology. One of the best books I've ever read, so give it a look on amazon.
To those who have read it: what did you think of it?
Hey everyone, I usually post on a books and lit. message board on GameFAQs, but I wanted to try some place new. This looks like a nice little board, although it seems kind of empty, so I just would like to say hello!
