The deciding factor for me to choose a book would be the synopsis on the back cover. If that isnt available, I usually look for reviews (amazon, friends). If its a known author, and if I already like his style, I would pick up the book anyways.
And sometimes the color/work on the cover...
I guess you could go ahead with sword of shannara. I havent read the prequel myself; The book does mention important parts of the prequel in gist in some places and you will get an idea as you go along.
Happy reading! and do post how you like it! :)
Has anyone read books by Roald Dahl? I have watched the movie 'Matilda' based on his book with the same name and absolutely loved it. But I need to know nonetheless.
And please do let me know the names of the books which you think are good.
Thanks!
Try Terry Brooks. You could start with Sword of Shannara and then maybe go on to the rest in the series. I read this book after reading Amulet of Samarkhand and loved it.

Wonder how many of you comfortably do this..I have a habit of reading a couple of books at a time. Initially I thought I would get the stories/contents all muddled up between the two ;) but then, I managed just fine.
Btw, Happy New Year everyone! :)
I did like 'Things Fall Apart' very much, eventhough it was a part of my course syllabus during undergrad few years ago. But then, its so well written, that I decided to include the book in my collection.
Well, I've read InkHeart by Funke and thought the book was ok. I like Stroud and Paolini, so comparatively this was simpler. And since the storyline revolved around books, I kinda liked it :)
Just joined BnR. Was looking out for a good online book forum and this seemed like a pretty nice one. I am a complete bibliophile and love to read. I own a few books and plan on putting up the list on the forum. Looking forward to all the book discussions and enhancing my collection.
