I managed 55 this year, which was a surprise when I started tallying them up. I didn't think I would have that many-it seemed like for many months I was single-mindedly focused on my art. And then I moved, which meant packing up all my books.
I guess that on average, I have always read...
Look at the title or cover, then read the first page or so. If that doesn't grab me, then I usually put it back. Of course sometimes I get to thinking about it, and get curious. In that case, I go back and buy it. I figure that if I don't forget about it in a day or so, then I might as well read...
Well, at the moment I am living in Seminole County, just southeast of OK city. :)
I tired to get my mother to move just outside of Wichita once. We were driving through, and I thought those plains wre awesome!
I bought a book at a garage sale once, and loved it. It was called " Thorpe" or " Thorp". I can't remember the name of the author, but the story was similar to " To Kill a Mockingbird" about a seven year old girl in the South. Her father was a teacher, and got in trouble for lending books to...
Actually it's not as hard as it seems. The small book travels with me, large books get read at the table. I keep one upstairs, one downstairs one in the car, one under the pillow...etc. :)
Hello and Happy new years to you guys too!
Yes, Mehasitngs, the book I am reading, " The Scotswoman" is fairly interesting. It's about Flora MacDonald and the political beginnings of the Revolutionary war. Not quite as classic as " Tory Oath" but still a good read.:)
Both take borrow the library and buy.
I love to own the books, but I am not fond of new books. I like 'saving' old unloved books from second hand stores and yard sales. There have been so many times I have come across books there that I might never have discovered in a new book store.

Who organizes? I just keep all my favorites in the bed with me. :) Well, actually not. The bed isn't strong enough.
I would love to have a room filled with shelves so they could be organized by genre/alphabetized. As it is, having a couple thousand volumes, that isn't possible. I pack most...
I've always read more than one at a time. Used to drive my Dad nuts, but I never got the contents mixed up. Sometimes I'll have up to six going; but all different genres. Usually just two or three though. :)
Hello, I am new...and apparently not very bright. i didn't see this board until I had already started posting.
Anyhow, this looks like a pretty nice place, lot's of discussion and topics. I like the variety, too. It's nice to meet and talk to people who read different styles of writing. :)
Number of the Beast by Robert Heinlein. I wasn't enjoying it and kind of intentionally/accidentally packed it up when I was moving. I'll finish it when it resurfaces.
Also my sister's copy of ''Lemony Snicket's the Miserable Mill''...which was lying around. Then I got my new library card, and...

I've read a few books that were a drag to get through, but I usually finished them eventually. ( 'Portrait of a Lady' springs to mind.) The book I least enjoyed reading was 'Number of the Beast' by Robert Heinlein. The characters, to me at least, were dull and the dialogue was very lame. The...
