    Reading in May

I finished Poison Master by Liz Williams - couldnt really get into to be honest. Then read Dreams Made Flesh by Anne Bishop - if you really liked the BLack Jewels series you'd love these short stories that fill in some history about some of the main characters :D

I know we're well through this month, but thought I would start a thread anyhow :D What are you reading, or what have you read so far this month. First Stone - Mark Anthony - the last book in the Last Rune Series by this author. A brilliant ending to his series :D Trail of the...

    Monthly Book Discussions

Unfortunately due to heavy study workload this year I've not always been able to get to posting onto this forum. It's a shame because I like coming here, but once this year's studies are over I'll be able to come more often :) However, I noticed when I can't participate the monthly book...

    Mark Anthony

I would say some books in the series do get better (there are 6) and some are a little confusing as in why did it go in that direction. However, overall I think it's entertaining and there were some great ideas in the series. :D

Since I first posted this thread, I've read all of the Last Rune Series :) Anyone else managed to read this series? And what did you think?

    Liz Williams

She's written a few standalone books and wondered if anyone had tried them :) I'm half way through Poison Master and in two minds if I'm enjoying it or not. The author is using both Sci-fi and Fantasy themes in the book and I'm not sure she's got the blend right.

    Acorna? ...the unicorn girl

I've read this book. I picked it up from my library, thinking it would have a sci-fi / fantasy mix. It's very much a sci-fi story and despite Acorna being an interesting character due to her difference to the rest of the characters in the book, I found the pace a bit slow for me.

The problem with your average fantasy novel...

I think long silly names for both characters and places in fantasy make it difficult to read. I much prefer books with smaller names, and it can be done, there are plenty of examples.

Susanna Clarke: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

I did read this and thought it was dire. Very few books actually get that description off me :(

    Elizabeth Haydon

I've read four books from the series and I believe their is a 5th out now :D I really liked the first three, unsure about the 4th though.

    Dark Fantasy

I've got Brook's Knights of the Void series and personally think it's one of his best :D I've read The Fifth Sorceress by Newcomb, didnt get any further as I didnt care much for his writing style. However, I wouldn't call this dark fantasy.

Wooo-Hooo. New Robin Hobb Title announced

I dont agree that a book needs to be overly detailed to be good. I find lots of detail slows down a plot :(

Wooo-Hooo. New Robin Hobb Title announced

I'm going to try and get her new series from the Library first, I've heard mixed reviews and fear it may be very detailed.

Thanks for the info, I'll probably not bother reading this one. I find Nix can be hit and miss with his books.
