That's a very pragmatic choice abecedarian! I wish I had read a book like that and had a book like that. There's a waterproof tearproof survival guide book of some sort available that I keep meaning to pick up. I'll worry about it after the rapture. My choice would be Never Cry Wolf by...
Backwards agrarian? You don't really mean backwards do you? ;) I understand what you mean and fortunately agrarian societies were re-evaluated in consideration with communism. While a faux-pas I don't think he was off-base because of the way rural communities were evolving opposed to urban...
Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat. I got myself a slick trade paperback edition of it. A gorgeous book. One of my all-time favourites. The ISBN of the edition I just bought is 0316881791.
September:
The Communist Manifesto by Marx and Engels 5/5
The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood 3/5
The Odyssey by Homer - Robert Fagles translation. 4/5
The Colony of Unrequited Dreams by Wayne Johnston 4.7/5
Oops I lied. I have more than one Penguin Classic with the black or silver cover. In addition to The Master and Margarita, which is silver, I have The Communist Manifesto, black cover and a collection of Jack London stories also in the black cover.
I agree with this immensely! Creating religious kids is one of the worst things a parent can do. It's abusive. God is found, not indoctrined. If a person is going to be spiritual let them find that course on their own. Religion should of course be taught, but the full sphere of it.
I have a few outlines written out. A few novel concepts written out. Twice as many of both in my head. I think they're decent but I get hung up on what I'm trying to say. What would the novel be about? Not the plot but the message. What is its meaning? Would anyone care? I know I should...
We have been told that there will soon be better parity between the now weak US dollar and the, so far, strong Canadian dollar. So, like many other prices, book prices are to drop here. Yes that means less of a deal stateside but a better deal at home. I currently work at a Chapters and get a...
I ended up with a couple bookclub edition when buying from ebay. I was told they were 'new' books. I guess technically they were new. While the content is the very same the quality really is subpar. :(
You have to be careful buying through bookclubs and with some other online retailers. You could end up with non-traditional printings. A bookclub printing for example is of slightly lesser quality. The paper is lower stock and the binding is not as good. Also, like the Mighty Fitz example...
Chapters, Canada's largest book retailer promotes books with 'Choice Lists'. iRewards Member's Choice, Teacher's Choice, etc. They're lists created by surveys. Author's Choice is the newest 'Choice' feature and easily the most interesting.
I would guess they'll have more authors weigh in...
For those that don't know a remainder is I'll explain with an example.
Recently I got myself a hardcover copy of Saturday by Ian McEwan for $9.99 brand new. This book was published in hardcover in 2005 (in Canada) and sold for $34.00. After a while sales of the book slowed and extra copies...
No Problem. There's a thread here about this series. Beware there are spoilers. There are other threads too about each book and I think the author has a thread as well. The first book in this series is called A Game of Thrones if you want to check it out.
