Part 2--The Second Stair
(As the days of October shorten, a young man descends with the sunset shadows down seven cellar stairs. This seven part series will be appearing on my blog during the month of October.)
**PART 2--The Second Stair**
Spokes and tires rumbled up the dirt road...
A fair point. It's just part 1 of a story that will be 7 parts. I should have made that more clear. Hopely the character's thoughts will lead the reader well enough through what is happening.
What if God was one us?
Just a slob like one of us?
(I don't remember the singer's name, but the song was written by that dude from The Hooters.)
The forced rhyme and grammatical mistake (if God were, not was--contrary to fact condition) are wonderful.

Paulie's long shadow stretched toward the cottage. Abandoned windows tilted in frames, and dust...
High over the roadway
Sliced into mountainside
We never knew it was there
Ticker-tack ties rumble
On washboard ground
Rusting rails screech
From blue jays
Lost in the trees
We drive
Our iron pace rolling
With spark bursts
In flame red maples
The gaze of another age
Sweeps across...
Do you ever see promotional bookmarks at the bookstore counter (advertising new titles, authors, etc.) or slipped inside your book? If so, would you use it?
Personally, I prefer using something as a bookmark rather than folding the pages.
(The electric chair originated as a public relations ploy by Thomas Edison to discredit his business rival, George Westinghouse. "Westinghoused" is a series of vignettes which portray, in a fictional manner, the true events leading to the execution of the first victim of the electric chair...
You might want to try Anne Frasier. Her stories are not forensic, but the protagonists are female, and a touch of romance is added. Hush, Before I Wake, and Play Dead are all good.
Any thoughts on this book? I felt the base story was very chilling, but the double layer of narrators on top of it was fatiguing. Kind of like Victor, Victoria. A story pretending to be a memoir pretending to be another memoir.
Spending extra time on the toilet can be hard on parts of your body you'd rather not mess with. One might find oneself reading the Preparation H box to pass the time.
That's a fair point.
Would you tend to visit sites more if the author offered free bits of writing and insights rather than a diary of his/her personal life?
I need to get much better. Usually, I sneak a few minutes of reading before bedtime.
On the other hand, I spend a great deal of time writing, so it's not wasted.
