I need a new book! Something classic, but not too dry or boring. I like books that have deep themes, entertaining plots, and just the right amount of abstraction. Here is a list of books that I have really liked:

Herman Hesse - Steppenwolfe (probably my all time favorite)
- Narcissus and Goldmund
Kurt Vonnegut - everything
Ken Kesey - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (just finished this, it was outstanding)
William Faulkner - The Sound and the Fury
JD Salinger - Catcher In The Rye
- Nine Stories (very under-rated IMO)
F. Scott Fitzgerald - This Side of Paradise
- The Great Gatsby

I'm probably leaving stuff out, but this should give you a good idea of what I'm into. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Edit: I'm taking a look at the book of the month too, looks good!

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. His command of the English language is impressive and probably outshines that of many authors I've read, and that's an understatement. Highly recommended (and not a dry read at all)!

If you like Fitzgerald, you are definitely going to like the works of Richard Yates, notably Revolutionary Road.
