This might be a difficult request

Fire Bringer sounds very interesting. I will look into it. Thank you. Actually, I am sorry to say after looking at the synopsis of this book, I won't be picking it up, because it sounds suspiciously too much like Watership Down.

Are there any good horror writers anymore?

Sorry, I don't know of any. Fiction doesn't scare me, though. Real life and real people do.

This might be a difficult request

Thank you for the response. Charles De Lint is a good recommendation, but I have already read him. I enjoy his older books, but I am not so fond of the newer ones. Your other recommendation looks very interesting. I will check that one out.

This might be a difficult request

I am looking for authors that I might enjoy, based upon authors I have already read and love. This might be difficult because my tastes tend to wander all over the place. However, maybe there is a similarity to the authors I will list that someone else might be able to see. Here are my...

Summer 2010: Fyodor Dostoevsky: The Brothers Karamazov

I want to be involved with the discussion on this one, but I have just started it and it may take me a month to finish. I must earn a living, you know. ;) Anyway, I hope we are given two months to discuss this one.

Forests of the Heart by Charles De Lint :stars1: Same boring characters, same tired old plot. The only books I have enjoyed by him are his older ones that are not set in Newford.

    Lost: Season 6

Immensely satisfying, in terms of allegory and symbolism. For a long time, I was watching this show and waiting for the scientific explanation of everything. It wasn't until the last season that I realized that wasn't what this show was about. I will have to re-watch the entire series...

need recommendations for contemporary short stories

I had to really think about this one, because I couldn't think of too many contemporary American authors that write short stories. But I came up with two authors that I think would fit your criteria: Novelties and Souvenirs: Collected Short Stories by John Crowley A Dove of the East and Other...

    House

I used to love House, but more and more the show is just becoming a long, drawn out soap opera for me.

What are we discussing in June, July & August?

I voted for The Brothers Karamazov. It is one I have been wanting to read for awhile.

    A Bestseller You Hated

That was one of my problems with it. I thought it was a poor imitation of Jose Saramago's style.

    Lost: Season 6

I think so. In more ways than one. Another thing that sticks with me. How does one get off the island? With a wheel and fire. Hmmmm, more symbolism and metaphor.
