What do you want to be when you grow up?

I was being flippant when I posted this - I wanted to be a nurse but as there was not much financial assistance at the tme in our family I went to work in a bank instead, continued in a bank when I came to Canada, then branched out and worked as a legal secretary for over 20 years. Not too...

    As Time Goes By

I have watched all the segments of this show and loved it, really an old show but well worth watching at any time, they are a great pair todgether Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer, being from England originally I found it really entertaining. Is that you Peder from years ago? Good to see your...

    Readingomnivore Reviews

I admire your dedication in reading and reviewing Victorian style writing - while I have no trouble watching a film version I find the stylized speech where nobody seems to come right out and say anything directly to be a wee bit irritating. I think I must have enjoyed it more when younger...

    e-Books Vs normal books..

Hi Peder - will have to get another Kindle at some point - am up to 1100 books in my archives and I think there is a cutoff point, not sure what the number is. I wonder how that works, will I still be able to access what I already have on the old Kindle? I don't imagine the contents will go...

    e-Books Vs normal books..

All my books are on Kindle, they don't take up space in our already overcrowded home. Some books from past years are in our big bookshelf but none have been added lately. We have a few gardening and reference books stored on the shelf below the coffee table. I did buy a couple of paperbacks -...

June 2015: Hilary Mantel - Wolf Hall

Still waiting for my copy of Wolf Hall from the library. Am told it is a big book so that's what's taking it so long to make it's way to me on the list.

I would be interested in discussing Wolf Hall for the June read. Am currently waiting for a copy to be made available from the local library, I think I'm about 3rd or 4th on the list so should get it in plenty of time for June. Hopefully 753C and others might join in?

Great review 753, I had missed the part about Darky Gardiner being related to Dorrigo. The review I posted for you I used again on another forum I belong to but tweaked it a bit more and tidied up some parts. Haven't read Wolf Hall and could maybe be persuaded to have a go - I did try to read...

April/May 2015: Richard Flanagan, The Narrow Road to the Deep North

Hello 753C: Yes, Flanagan's writing is extremely good. I felt that the character, Dorrigo, seemed to do quite a bit of philosophizing and the writing got a little bogged down at times. Events and circumstances seemed to happen to him, for instance, he hadn't planned to be the 'Big Fella'...
