I'm glad to hear this, kd2005. I've had my eyes on these ever since I finished Wouk's outstanding novel, Youngblood Hawke, which is another long book that I can't recommend highly enough.
As far as natural beauty and environmental titles go, I would second the Desert Solitaire suggestion although some sections I enjoyed more than others. There are several books that would fall somewhat under the man vs. nature category. Follow The River by James Alexander Thom is about a woman...
