5 Favourite Books

book_reader said:
these are my top 5 favorite books (not in order)

- Red wall series
- Harry Potter Series
- Inkheart
- Seeds of time
- The secret of Light

Inkhart was cool, but it seemed to drag on with alot of space filler....I didnt think anybody else would read Cornila Funke

My top five favorite books, in no particular order, are as follows:

-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
-The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
-Wuthering Heights (by one of those Bronte sisters >_< I can never remember which one)
-The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
-Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya

Perhaps the reason that most of them are my favorites is because I have recently read them...hehe they are likely to change as I read more books :)

My five favorites, in no particular order...

-The Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix
-Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke
-His Dark Materials Trilogy by Phillip Pullman
-Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix
-Animorphs by K.A. Applegate

I know, technically that's more than five books... but some of those are in a series and just wouldn't be complete without the rest of the series!

Mine changes frequently but for now it is:

Oranges are Not The Only Fruit - Jeanette Winterson
The Robber Bride - Margaret Attwood
Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
The Eyre Affair - Jasper FForde

red tent by anita diamant
cold mountain charles frazier
pillars of the earth ken follet
grapes of wrath john steinbeck
as the crow flies anne marie macdonald

5. Crime and Punishment
4. 1984
3. Beyond Good and Evil
2. Brothers Karamazov
1. Ulysses (I am not even finished with it, but I love the book so far)

This is hard... I'll try and put these in order but I think I love these all equally.

1. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
2. The Bronze Horseman - Paulina Tully
3. Drums of Autumn - Diana Gabaldon
4.Daugher of the Forest - Juliet Marriller
5. Memoirs of Geisha - Aurthur Golden

The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas
The Decameron - Giovanni Boccaccio
The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien
The Stand - Stephen King
Great Expectations - Charles Dickens

just 5 are too diffiult

;)

so i'll just post my favorite books in no particular order:

"The Dharma Bums" - Jack Kerouac
"Turtle Island" - Gary Snyder (well it's a collection of poems and essays)
"Der Steppenwolf" - Herman Hesse
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" - Douglas Adams
"Heart of Darkness" - Joseph Conrad
"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" - Philip K. Dick
"Ulysses" - James Joyce
"Slaughterhouse 5" - Kurt Vonnegut
"Animal Farm" - George Orwell
"Brave New World" - Aldous Huxley
"On The Beach" - Nevil Shute
"A Catcher in the Rye" - J.D. Salinger

since i read a lot, there are constantly some books added to this list of course, but none of these books will "disappear" from my favorite list!!

Life Changing List

Kristina Lavransdatter - Sigrid Undset (yes, I will keep up with my search for another Undset fan)
The Antichrist - Frederich Nietzsche
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer - Patrick Suskind
The World According To Garp - John Irving
The Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis
Alice In Wonderland - Lewis Carroll
Ética para Amador - Fernando Savater (english title just Amador)

First of all, I know that it is suposed to be just five books, but all of the titles above deserve to be on this list. Secon of all, there are lots more, but these books make my all time favorite list, just because all of them have made a change in the way I see the world...

Verrrry difficult to narrow it down to just 5. My current list, in no particular order:

"Reasons To Live" - Amy Hempel
"To Kill A Mockingbird" - Harper Lee
"The Elephant Man and Other Reminicences" - Sir Frederick Treves
"Norwegian Wood" - Haruki Murakami
"The Picture of Dorian Gray" - Oscar Wilde

It'll probably change at some point...

attn: ell

alright, what a tread (lengthwise). from my quick glance at it, I am supposed to add a few smart or classic books here, right? well, I don't think I have some of them in my fave list... besides LoTR...

I absolutely adore the DUNE series by Frank Herbert. IF god would write sci-fi, he'd written DUNE, seriously, he told me! :D

Dark Tower, yesss!!!

and some more, but I actually jumped in to ask Ell about the Foundation series...
maybe it's worth another tread (what you think, Ell?) but I read the first foundation book but got no further. what caught my interest was, that it shows quite a few parallels to DUNE, imo. As DUNE, FOUNDATION spans more than just spaceships and laserguns... it interweaves politics and religion (especially religion) just like DUNE does. and here's my real question/comment:
I think FOUNDATION does what DUNE does, but on a lesser scale. the whole politic/religion thing is somewhat summarized and abbreviated, judging from the first book (and here's my flaw: I can only judge by the first book and might be misled). DUNE develops an immense political and religious framework over 6 books that in its grandeur and complexity has yet to be rivaled. but then again, I am no sci-fi expert, so my judgment might be jaded...

anyway, just a thought..

It changes often, but...

Moby-Dick
Golf in the Kingdom by Michael Murphy
Iron John by Robert Bly (non-fiction)
The Grapes of Wrath
The Old Man and the Sea

Well, i couldn't separate the last 2 so here are 6.

The Wind in the Willows- Grahame. I've loved the adventures of mole, ratty, badger and the irrepressible vain Toad, with his motor car obsession (poop poop!) since a kid.

The Little Prince- St Exupéry. A French aviator stranded in the Sahara makes the acquaintance of the small fella from asteroid B612 who's landed on Earth. A book for adults as much as children; full of wisdom, charm and friendship.

The House of the Spirits- Allende. This great South American novel spanning 3 generations left me reeling with its scope, its magic and finally its political and emotional power. " "Barabbas came to us by sea", the child Clara wrote in her delicate calligraphy"

The Pillow Book- Sei Shonagon. A 10th/11th century Japanese court lady's delicate, amusing and sometimes snobbish observations of nature and events at the palace.

Tom Jones- Fielding. This rollicking romp of an 18th century English epic adventure will keep you engrossed for all 900 or so pages.

Jacques the Fatalist- Diderot. An engaging Chinese box of tales within tales, with meditations on inevitable destiny, by an enlightened 18th century French social thinker

Kane & Abel - Jeffrey Archer
The Harry Potter Series - J.K Rowling
Good Omens - Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman
Angela's Ashes - Frank McCourt
