Armistead Maupin: The Night Listener

Just finished this book yesterday.

I loved it. The story was compelling, lacking any dull moments. Maupin's style is poetic without being indulgent and flowery. I can't recall if Tales of the City was written in a similar fashion, having read that several years ago. As great as this book is, however, I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. If anyone has read The Night Listener, what were their views on this?

I've seen the film "The Night Listener" and really liked it. Is the book like the movie?

From what I remember, mostly. The book did have more scenes between the main character and his father. I'm 99% positive his relationship with his partner was fleshed out more too. I guess the movie can be looked at as an abridged version of the book: drops "small" moments and keeps in the most important ones.
