I'm tickled to find that some of my favorite writers have their own websites, but while some are great, some are stiff, overly commercial productions, as if the publisher's prodding them in the back and muttering "you can fit another link to Amazon in that space there."
Worst
Kris Nelscott/Kristine Kathryn Rusch/Kristine Grayson
http://www.kristinekathrynrusch.com/
Impersonal, boring and as guarded as a pit bull. Total sales/promo site for her work.
Best
Andrew Vachss
www.vachss.com
A ton of information, and hysterically in tune with the books he writes - dark, dark, dark.
Barbara Hambly
http://www.barbarahambly.com/
Very personal, with entries and chatty explanations of various books, series and plans for the future.
Hard To Tell
Craig Clevenger
http://www.craigclevenger.com/
Badly chosen font colors make it nearly invisible.
The above are personal websites, not affiliated with their publishers. Publisher websites, of course, are largely sales/PR material.
