Books about Gandhi

Mohandas Gandhi is on my mind because I have recently been preparing for a course centered on his life and times. I am finding that the books I am using fall into several categories.

1. Books by Gandhi himself, like his autobiography and his book about health practices.
2. General books about Gandhi and his times, like biographies.
3. Memoirs by people who knew Gandhi or were heavily influenced by him.

Many in the last category are very uncritical: here was this great man and he didn't have a spot on him! This was perhaps implied by Gandhi himself who wrote of his youthful transgressions but implies he had successfully overcome all. I can admire what the single minded people like Gandhi accomplish, but I don't quite trust them and I certainly wouldn't want to live with them.

Am I the only one somewhat put off by this man? Can anyone recommend sources I may have missed?
