re UFO's, I take words for what they mean, not what they are intended to mean by someone I have no knowledge of. I think we do the same with all writing, no?

but words are affected by how they're used. They gain meanings. ufo may mean unidentified flying object literally, but by using it you obliquely reference all the theories that people ascribe to those objects.
