Inspiring books for teens

Yes, I see your point. it's one of those things that will run and run. like the whole violent video game thing - are people going to go and do this stuff anyway etc etc.....
How many kids are harmed or killed because they see some stupid-ass stunt on a show or in a movie and then they go out an attempt to do it themselves?
Wasn't there a movie that kids would lay down on a road and let cars rush past them for thrills....then kids did it in real life and got killed?

Also, there's the Jackass type stunts kids try to pull.....

well - and playing devil's advocate here, some would say that this is nature's way of weeding out the stupid...

i guess i can only comment from my own experience growing up. i read all kinds of things etc. and never had any urges to go do anything like it.
see, i've met quite a few people who have led quite sheltered lives(people horrified at what i consider to be quite average things), and these people just seem, well, not quite with the real world. if that makes any sense.

You can only shelter your kids from books, films etc at home cause in the outside world ie school, friends houses, they watch what ever there friends watch, read! or in my case a stupid ex husband who thinks its fine to let the kids watch an film thats for 18s,this has caused many rows!

Not sure if I get your point here, but....

Just because my kid can get access to pot/alcohol/porn/cigarettes... or what ever behind my back, does not justify me allowing free access to it in my home.

We also have to consider that some movies, which were Rated R a few years back, are now Rated PG. Time sometimes changes things.

I dont justify these things in my home either, point i was making was they will find access to it else where, outside your home. sorry if i didnt make myself clear enough!

I'm looking for books for teens that are fun to read yet inspiring at the same time. Can you help me? There are already books that I've found like Jostein Gaarder's The Solitaire Mystery and Sophie's World, but it seems that the teen-agers that I've recommended the books are not interested. They think it's too profound. Please help. :)

Not sure if its what your looking for, but My teen brother and sister both enjoyed this...
The Outsiders ~ S.E. Hinton (Puffin Modern Classics)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...3766/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_11_1/202-3238559-8566226

I quite enjoyed it myself :D

people underestimate teens too much. I read 1984,brave new world and farenheit 451 when i was 11 and loved them

Not all teens are like you. I think it's not a matter of underestimating them but it's more of guiding them. :)
