"We should tell foreign enemies that this is the Iranian nation, whether you adopt a resolution or whatever hostile act... our people will withstand it," senior cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Janati said in a Friday prayer sermon in Tehran carried live on state radio.

"Our people will resist and stand tall to the end," Janati said as major powers worked in New York on reaching a Security Council consensus over a European draft resolution mandating UN nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.

The West aims to impose sanctions over Iran's refusal to halt uranium enrichment, fearing that this is a front for it to develop nuclear weapons.

But Tehran remains defiant that it will continue nuclear activities which it says are of a purely peaceful and civilian nature aimed at producing power.

Any thoughts? All I know is that their claim to only wanting nuclear energy for non-military purposes is a complete sham. Yep, with oil underneath their feet, they are sooooooo in need of energy resources.

Well, some people could argue that they are planning ahead, so that when oil runs out their country won't be dependable on other nations. Some scandinavian countries, rich in oil too, also use other energy sources domestically so they're not dependable on oil.

But I don't buy this arguement :D

Until we get rid of our own nuclear weapons, we dont have any right to tell them they may not have any. We should disarm ourselves, then encourage others to do the same.
