• Darkmans, Nicola Barker
• The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Mohsin Hamid

It's a fair list with the exception of The Reluctant Fundamentalist which I don't think merits a place in the shortlist - certainly not at the expense of Peter Ho Davies' The Welsh Girl.

Although it never made the shortlist, here's my review of Michael Redhill's Consolation.

So Anne Enright wins for The Gathering. I think everyone that bothered (Palimpest, Guardian, Booker site, probably more) thinks it's a bloody joke. Just another dent in the general public's confidence of this prize.
