Sandoz is a noted author of the great plains, a person whose works incorporated how the land influenced the people who settled there and how they lived and died. Just finished Old Jules, an interesting piece about her immigrant father. From a poor European background, Jules went through droughts, storms, conflicts with cattlemen, sheepmen, and four wives.
My favorite Sandoz work though is her lone outwardly political writing, Capitol City. This book was a fictional story pieced together from newspaper clippings about anti-union and anti-worker activities that went on in several md-western capitols during the great depression.
