Michael Connelly: City of Bones

The Butcher

Plot: Bosch and his well-dressed partner, Jerry Edgar, are working to identify a child's skeleton, buried for 20 years in the forest off Hollywood's Wonderland Drive, and to bring the killer to belated justice. For Bosch this is more than just another homicide, as the mystery child, beaten and abandoned, comes to represent much of what he sees as evil in his city. Add in a tragic love affair with a fellow cop, complications from overzealous media, and the growing feeling that he's fighting a losing battle about which no one cares, and the usually stoic Bosch is pushed to his limits.

My opinion: Harry Bosch's character just get better and better with each book. This book was very in depth with his character, and also the plot was very interesting and suspenseful.

I consider this book equal to The Concrete Blonde, which was a great book.

I give it :star5:

I do agree with you on the statement that Bosch is a great character and Connelly keeps getting better over time. Connelly's storytelling is a stroke of genius and though this wasn't my of my favorite from his, I just believe that even Connelly's weak efforts are a lot better than most authors out there. I do enjoy this one and I believe Lost Light is the next book which is really great and Echo Park is probably my favorite from him.

That is why he is my all time favorite character.

I'm currently waiting for Lost Light, and I'm getting very impatient. Bosch is like a freaking drug.

Harry Bosch is one of my favorite characters. He has a couple of books featuring Jack McEvoy that I think you'll enjoy.

It has been a long time since I read most of these books but I do remember I really enjoyed City of Bones. I also really loved one which involved tunnel rats from Vietnam War, but I cannot remember which one this was. And also one in which he was retired from police but still investigated this murder.

Just finished. I didn't think it was as good as my favorite in the series thus far(The Last Coyote),but I enjoyed it nonetheless

4/5.

What do you think about the ending?

What are you reading next from Connelly?
Very sad . I thought Bosch would feel some closure for completing parto f his mission.

I'd like to read The Scarecrow, but I'm afraid it might give away spoilers from the Harry Bosch series. I'll read Lost light as soon as my brother gets done with it.

It was very sad and I was emotional invested in that character.

You should read the Scarecrow. If I remember correctly, Bosch does not make a cameo in this one.

I mean as in,does McEvoy tell anything about Bosch's cases from the Bosch series that might spoil something?

This was my first Bosch book. From what I remember, the mystery was good but certain parts felt underwritten (mainly the scenes with Harry's love interest). Maybe COB would have had more impact if I read earlier installments.
