Mitchell Smith: The "Snowfall" Trilogy

Snowfall ~ First book of a trilogy that takes place during the next ice age, a mile thick glacier covers the top half of the hemispheres and man has been reduced to prehistoric levels of technology. The book follows a group of 'Trappers' who flee south from an advancing horde, meeting new cultures and trying to survive. I would describe this as post apocalyptic wilderness survival. There I've just coined a new genre name.

Kingdom River ~ Taking place 20 years after the events of Snowfall, this one is about Sam Monroe, the leader of a large section of New Mexico and how he has to deal with the advancing Kipchak horde, who have crossed from Asia into North America. Not as good as the first. Loses some of the human drama in the large scale battles and political maneuvering.

Moonrise ~ Taking place another 20 years after the last one, the final book in the Snowfall trilogy is a throwback to the first, with lots of wilderness adventure and ends with an assault on the city of New Boston, which has been carved out of the glacial ice. More focus on the characters, makes this one a much more enjoyable read.
