New to fantasy, reccomendations?

Yeah, I'm wondering if you guys that really love fantasy can point me to a good book to get me started? I went to the library today and got this books called The light by Louise Cusack and one called The three Damosels by Vera Chapman. I don't know if these are good. Have any of you read them? I just want a good introducer to fantasy so I get a good idea about it, so far I've only read all the LOTR books.
