The battle,The retreat,The exile
Tree superbe books were Rambaud find the perfect tone, classic but without fear of digging in the gutters for flowery expressions. It's dirty, bloody and a little mad.The characteres shows panache and guts, the feeling of battles peferctly reproduce and trully ,if not aware, i would have thought it written at another time.
Balzac or Flaubert would have felt at ease with those books.
It might be explain by the fact that Rambaud wrote a few parodies of French writer like Margueritte Duras(Mururoa my love) so he can fairly well slip into a style. And this with the Napoleonic wars is most welcome.A very special intem in the genre.
