I think this is a type of character that is underused in both books and in film. For some reason these characters intrigue me though with their obsessive personalities and the belief that they must pursue their goal no matter what.

I think one of the best of either fiction or film is Herber West. Another from film is of course Dr. Strangelove.

So I was wondering if anyone had any good stories to recommend with characters like this.

The Young Adult book "Dr Franklin's Island" by Ann Halam has a rather nasty example of a mad scientist, performing genetic experiments on three teenagers against their will.

My favorite mad scientists are the classics: Dr. Jekyll and Victor Frankenstein.

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's book 'Cabinet of Curiosities' focuses around the works of a mad scientist.
