Does anyone recall an OLD children's book about a furry black creature............and a woodcutter? or something of that sort. With a chant that goes something like:

"Taily po, taily po"

A friend of mine is looking for this book, and doesn't know who the author is, nor the name of the book.

Any ideas? Does this ring a bell to anyone?

The only thing I can remember about woods and a black creature from kids' books was Black Annis but she was based on German legend and ate kids for a living. I think a woodcutter killed her.

The Tailypo: A Ghost Story is by Joanne Galdone and illustrated by Paul Galdone. I read it to my classes every year during or around Halloween. It can be ordered from any of the online bookstores.
