I've just finished reading The Murderess by Ivan Jenson and strongly recommend his book.
It's a fresh, thrilling, and unputdownable rollercoaster of domestic suspense propelled by a fascinatingly flawed character. And now it's on sale for only 99 cents! Limited time!
Becca Garner wakes from her drug-induced sleep, following a night with her elderly lover. She's married with grown daughters. He's also married. But he has promised to leave her a million dollars in exchange for her company.
When she wakes, she breathes a sigh of relief ... she's alone. But she's going to have to invent a story to tell her husband and children where she's been all night. But then she hears the water running ... he's still there. She never likes the mornings after a night of indulgence.
What she finds in the bathroom sobers her up immediately. He's in the bathtub, naked, with his throat cut.
If she calls the police, she'll have to confess to her husband. And if he really has left her that much money .. that gives her a clear motive and may land her in prison. Did she kill him while she was under the influence? Why would she have wanted him dead? Did someone come into their room and kill him? Why would they have left her alive?
It's a complex plot, well-written. Becca is the character you love to hate. As she relates her backstory, she seems to have no redeeming qualities. Her daughters don't seem to think about anything other than themselves. And her husband is a long-suffering soul. He repeatedly states he will kill himself if she leaves him ... and he's gotta know what she's doing when she doesn't come home at night. There are twists and turns galore that ultimately lead to a surprising and unexpected conclusion.
It's a good, satisfying read. The book is available only on Amazon at the moment.
