What Star Wars to start with?

Title says it all. I want to start reading Star Wars books but have no idea where to start. It's a huge distribution and has many series within it. I have never read a single star wars novel, only seen movies 1-6.

Thanks for the help!

The first 3 that came out make a decent trilogy (Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy - Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command). These were the first 3 books out after Lucas agreed to Bantam being given the Star Wars licence to publish books. Zahn and Stover tend to be the higly regarded authors in the line.

Since then, quite a few books came out of varying quality (as with any franchise - quite a few duds in the Star Wars line so be careful). A few books make more references to continuity than others. I'd say start with the Thrawn trilogy (which is still regarded as one of the best in the line). Before the prequels came out, there were rumours of episodes 7-9. Fans did wonder how Lucas was going to top the Thrawn trilogy.

There are so many books you could begin with. You know alot of Star Wars EU readers just read from where their interest is. There are so many eras that you may not have an interest in and could skip.

You should try this site I joined a few months back called jedi-masters. They have a book timeline on their blog with info on all the books etc. Also they have decent forums to ask questions about books and the films.

Would it not be logical to start from the begining? or they don't really go in a particular order?

No, no, there is no why. Clear your mind of the question.

Well the films aren't in order. So figure out where that leaves the spin offs which are placed wherever the authors want them to be.

I feel a disturbance in the force
The force is with you, young Skywalker, but you are not a Jedi yet.
