I like to trawl car boot slaes when I can and charity shops. If i buy new I like to support independent book stores, such as the wonderful 'Webberleys' in Stoke. Apart from the books I can spend an hour upstairs just sniffing the stationery.

Mainly Barnes and Noble, although I use Amazon.com and the B&N website every once in a while. I've even found some old paperbacks for cheap at my library. Really, there's no particular place I use to buy my books.

Lately I've mostly been signing up for bookrings through Bookcrossing.com, so I don't buy anything. I'm always being pleasantly surprised by a new book in my mailbox. When I'm done I pass it along to the next person.

However, when I do buy, it's usually an impulse buy on Amazon.

Borders mainly, I recently got a job though so I'm sure when I get paid I'll buy from websites. Although I do like the feeling from buying in shops

I either go to the library or buy sets of books from "The book people". They always have fantastic deals so can normally get a few sets really cheap that keep me going for a while.

If I can't get the stuff I want then I look in WHSmith, then take the train and look at Waterstones...if I can't get it I will try amazon.

I'm female and I have a wife, but that's another thread :)

I mainly use the library, don't have the money or space to buy most books. However when I DO buy I tend to do so from Chapters, which I dont' like because I'd prefer to support a small business but Chapters just hypnotizes me and I cant help myself.

I've always been a fan of library sales, but since discovering a wonderful new and used bookstore within a reasonable driving distance I enjoy going there. Not only can I get cheap books, but I can also bring my other books that I no longer want in to get store credit.

Although I did find this Borders with reduced prices. I love going there! Between these two places I've been exponentially increasing my book collection.

as of flate, i've been getting a lot of books from dvdboxoffice.com. they started selling books a while ago, and so far it's been pretty good going. if you can't find what you're looking for you can email them and they'll try to find it for you. shipping's free, too, which is a bonus.

otherwise, i'll usually do the hardcover trade-in for a few paperbacks at my local book-swap shop.

i just got a box of books a few days ago from thriftbooks.com, 20 books cost me about 56 dollars, i thought that was great, more than half of them were titles i had trouble locating at the used book stores i usualy go to so that was great. there shipping is a little cheaper than amazon too so i guess i can complain

Am I the only one that buys all her books from charity shops?

I think they're ace, there's two or three on the local high street and they often have something worth reading, other than that I go to the library or steal off family.

I don't remember the last time I bought a new book just for me :(

My usual MO is:
1. Buy paperback from library sales (cost = .50 cents) or if lucky,
2. Buy 1st edition HC of favorite authors from library sales (cost = $1.00) &
3. If I like the PB well enough, I'll seach online for a signed 1st edition.:D
