any ideas? can you think of any dysfunctional inventions?

I'll take a try... the honor system (we don't have to be so cynical as this, but you get the idea)

I thought of another..... right side up ketchup bottle

cell phones are known to malfunction

at this point, a cell phone is a status symbol with a static signal.

Lol, toys with “fun” sounds are really annoying :)

But for me cell phones are great. The problem is that many people don’t know how to use them, forgetting to switch it to the vibrational option on the movies, meetings or any other occasion alike. Oh, and there are also the great amount of advertising text messages I receive weekly.

But for me the worst of the inventions--and I think some poeple will disagree :)--is the fast food. I hate its smell and the concept of “eating faster so I don’t waste time”. What the hell? So it’s supposed to mean that taking 20 minutes of the 24 ours of the day for having lunch, for self survival, is a waste of time? So if I don’t pass at the drive trough and go eating inside the car as I drive to work not to waste my time I am a time waster? If the fast food was flavoursome at least… But no. I like real meat and real salad, rice, fish, beans, pasta, whatever. Not that conserved ingredients… Pizza is also good, when made traditionally, not simply thawed. Japanese and Chinese food as well. French fries are good, but eating it every day is the same as listening to your favourite music every 10 minutes: you’ll get tired of it eventually. And the fast food seems to presuppose such fries. I would never be able to eat the same food every day and the fast food establishments don’t even try to enlarge the variety of meals… lol. It’s horrible. There are people who eat this thing every day. I can’t. Maybe I don’t like the so called “fast food” because when I was born it was not a “new” anymore. Oh, I don’t know.

I agree with Fast Food. There's a difference between what the rest of the world has (good food served fast by street vendors) and what we have (chemical cocktails we call fast food).

I have to agree with the Reality TV - that does my head in.
Ditto. I tried to give it a chance, but it was just so worthless that I couldn't even get through an entire showing. I found myself to be almost embarrassed for those people who were making fools of themselves in front of the world. I like "Reality TV" such as Survivorman, Dirty Jobs, Trading Spaces, etc., but the other is useless drivel.

Commercials
I agree with this as well. Tivo is perfect for skipping commercials though. I'm not sure what I ever did without it.

I will admit, however, that I ended up getting the perfect Christmas gift for my hubby because of an infomercial that was on late one night during on of my many insomniatic periods. The remote was on the other couch and I was really trying very, very hard to fall back asleep and didn't want to get up and reenergize myself.

snow blowers. dysfunctional to the world of silent muffledom that we should get when snow falls

why didn't they think of upside down ketchup bottles sooner? There are probably a billion people who use ketchup every day.

Toys with "fun" sounds.

DITTO!!! As a mother of a 4 year old, I can't agree more!! You can only take so many "HONK HONKS" and CHOO CHOOS" and besides that, there are the toys that don't take batteries....so they never die. UGH!!

On that note the WORST INVENTION EVER is the Lionel Coin Bank!!

Umm, okay. I'm just gonna go ahead and say this.

Books
. Waste of paper, waste of time, waste of talent, and waste of labor. Why not just have more storytellers like in the old old days? Why waste the time with a book when you can just go see the movie? I'm really not kidding about this. I love books, but I honestly think they are useless and ridiculous. I think there could easily be a case made against them.

BLASPHEMER! How dare you speak of books as worthless! They don't waste paper or time! They use and no waste is included in that use. Books should be on the list of greatest inventions, for without them we would still be scribbling on walls. They transfer information at such an uncontrollable rate that they have controlled the fate of nations. Books hold ideas. An idea is the greatest thing ever.
