  • Hello, DSK. Your answer to mystery trivia was correct!

See latest post by me regarding mix-up about Silver Dagger! And it's your turn!

Hi, DSK. Thanks so much for the kind words. I've got a lot of writing and research to do... :)

As for the books, given your background, you might like the first Ellie book, AN EYE FOR MURDER. So I'd start there. There's a lot of Jewish content, especially during the WW2 era. Sorry you can't find them in the library... I thought they were fairly well distributed. Just goes to show, you can never tell... Let me know what you think when you read it.
I JUST ordered it from Netflix! Thanks, DSK. I agree. I hope Steven Spielberg is still doing his oral/video histories.
Hey DSK, I clicked on your name because it was the last on BOOK REPORTS, holly cow! I thought I was posting in BOOK REPORTS, but no, I was sending you a lovely message. No wonder I was so confused. It's too late to be doing this, but a bit funny, eh? Forgive me>>>
:flowers:Okay, I've been out of the loop, but what happened? I thought we could make longer posts, but I keep getting the 1000 character limit message. If this is already being discussed please direct me. I will edit this down to one post if I can once this is figured out.

I was going to post a review of John Hart's DOWN RIVER, but I'm out of time. I will say, I did not like it. Funny, to love one book by an author so much, and detest another by the same writer. I'm down for writing a scathing review, hopefully I can post the whole thing at once

There are some great characters in this book. Jack is his best friend, ailing from a deformed arm, is full of attitude. The boys cut class, drink beer and smoke cigarettes on the riverbank. Their lives are complex and this is a reminder that life is not always simple in adolescence

Johnny is parent to his drug-addled mother, a beautiful and helpless waif. He steals her car to go across town to the cheap super market where he buys the bare essentials, fixes her coffee and an egg. It is a soulful relationship, and again captures a true scene of a darker Americana.

THE LAST CHILD has its share of villains, but at its center is Ken, upstanding pillar of the community, abuser and drug enabler to Johnny’s mom. He’s a creepy sicko whose power and influence make him formidable.
I went to post this review but got a 1000 character limit message?? I thought we had more... Well I know it's annoying to read, but I'm going to have to break this up into three parts. Sorry:innocent:

THE LAST CHILD by John Hart **** ½ four and a half stars

I loved, loved, loved THE LAST CHILD. This is a story of a young boy on a quest. Johnny’s twin sister Alyssa has been missing for a year and the case seems to have been shelved. His father has walked out on him and his mother has spiraled into a pit of miserable self-destruction. Johnny is forlorn, but refuses to give up and tirelessly searches for his lost sister.
Hope I;m doing this correctly. Not sure it's coming directly to you, DSK, so let me know. Thanks for writing. The book you're thinking of is my first, AN EYE FOR MURDER. It's on Kindle if you do that, also on epub-- or maybe your library can get it from another branch. And yes, I'm very much aware of yesterday. That's one of the reasons I am continually drawn to WW2 era novels. Not only because of the personal connections, but because it was a time fraught with conflict... a time when people were either heroes or cowards, and it was difficult to be anything else. Can anyone really disclaim responsibility for the hatred? Can anyone claim they didn't know? And what would we do today, if it happened again? So many difficult questions. And even more difficult answers.
Hi, Debby. My ex husband's parents were Holocaust survivors as well... Have you read Lev Raphael? He writes on the subject quite well, I think.
I also enjoy the British Mysteries. Welcome to ICE. I am stumbling around in the dark at the moment, but finding my way around.
