Dan Brown

I think Dale Brown has been around for a lot longer than Dan Brown; can't say I've read any of his stuff though.

Yes, Dale Brown goes back a little further then Dan Brown. Dale Brown is an ex-Air Force Captain who writes military/techo thrillers much like Tom Clancy. My favorite was Flight Of the Old Dog.

my 2 cents:

he's a great gateway drug-- potentially damaging, but life altering in a sense.

a piss pour writer as far as technique goes, but some fun if you don't try to think too hard. like the new star wars movies: they're lots of fun so long as you leave your brain switched off.

but what happens, in my experience, after someone reads the da vinci code is something along the following:

DB yahoo: "wow! that was, like, the kewlest book EVAR! what can i read that's like it? how can i learn more about the secrets of the early christian church? oh, and by the way, i've been googling "Virgin of the Rocks" and "priory of scion" so much that i think i've become molecularly fused with their mainframe. how do i get loose again?"

Recovered DB yahoo: "Dood... watch how loud you say that stuff, people will start to think you're serious our something. here. this is a stack of books of similar ilk but more brainwork involved. take two and call me in the morning"

DB yahoo: "Ok... lalalalalalalal reading reading"

a week later...

DB yahoo: "hey there Recovered DB yahoo! thanks for those great books! they were great! i can't get enough of this to the point that i've pawned my TV and got a frequent buyer card for my local book shop and a month's supply of sunflower seeds. Thanks man! you're the bestest friend i ever had!"

DB yahoo now gives Recovered DB yahoo a million dollars and she retires to the south of france.

it's happened to me a few times now. well... everything but that last bit, but hey, the day is young ;)

Rib-ticklingly hilarious and true. nice one :D

I see what you mean, when people in my school read this book, they assumed they knew about a major conspiracy in the Christian Church, and about four of them came up to me saying something like "Hey, book-boy, you read a lot, dont you? What do you think of this Da Vinci Code book, then?". Very annoying.

Really really dislike him...

Only actually made it through about a chapter...And only because approximately 500000 people kept foisting it upon me....on the basis that I was a book lover...Aaaaarrrggghh there's 20 mins of my life I will NEVER get back.

Bad people!!!

I don't think he can write at all, but that would be my humble opinion...

I'll make my "rant" short.

If you can't stand crap writing do one of these things.

1) Read piss writing

2) Not read it at all

3) Write something much better than Dan Brown could, get it published, become a world renowned author, and have a fanbase of millions.

4) Leave people to actually read what they want to read instead of coming on an online forum to whine and complain about an author.

Have you even read the book entirely? If yes, answer this. If you hate it so much, why did you bother to finish it?

Short enough I think.

Hi folks

Dan Brown is like Bird Flu - he seems to have swept the world, infecting everyone in his wake. When I sit on the bus, everyone else seems to be reading Dan Brown. My work colleagues are reading him. Even my mother reads him.

I'll be honest - I find his writing cringe-makingly lame. I mean, I think I'd rather have scrotal elephantiasis than read a Dan Brown novel. A four year old retard could write a better novel than Dan Brown (no offence to four year old retards).

I don't have a religious bone in my body, so I'm not some frustrated Catholic venting his spleen at heresy as entertainment. I just can't stand crap writing.

I feel like that woman at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the remake) who is the last "uninfected" person left.......

End of rant.

The Doogster ;-)
I agree. I had to read him and was not pleased at all.

I got about halfway, Yawn! and it went in the bin ... pleased I never bought it new...
Have enjoyed some of my 10 year olds books more than Dan (CAN'T WRITE)/BORING/OVER HYPED UP ) Brown ...
Heard the film is as boring to...

Yawn!

  1. How grown up!
  2. How do you know it's crap until you read it?
  3. Why would a reader have to do such a thing, you sillius soddus? If a reader comes across crap writing (justified in this case) then they can read other books that don't have crap (or piss ;) ) writing. To suggest that they should prove themselves by writing a novel is stupid.
  4. The focus of the forum posted to is Authors. The post is about an author. Why should he not post?

Tosh!

I'm not so much bothered by the fact that Dan Brown is not a great writer. I am not a great writer either. There is much worse out there, my friends.

What I am bothered by is the fact that he has gained millions of fans for writing crap while there are hundreds of better writers out there that go virtually unnoticed.

Sorry Josh, I backed you up over the Hitler thing, but this is one of the silliest things I've read on this forum.

I think the bottom line he was getting at was 'put up or shut up'. With a touch of mockery.

And Steffee.....:D

Exactly! There are so many great books that go unnoticed. It's a tragedy.
