Turning your book passion into an occupation

:):) hehe. Join my club. The sad thing was that right after they finished the interview, one of the librarians (the main one we made fun of) left the school because she had breast cancer. Oh the guilt! Lani

Hey I have heard a lot about this book. (mostly bad things, to be honest). I havent read it, but in my literature class last year, we were studying a play called 'Cosi' which was also set in a mental home. I had to write an essay on lobotomies and related things and my teacher said to get most...

    buying by blurbs

Hey I totally don't care about the blurb. Its just a waste of space. I buy a books from authors I like, or authors they recommend. I read reviews in newspapers and interviews with authors and if I like the sound of them, then I'll pick up one of their books. If a friend has read a book they...

Turning your book passion into an occupation

Well, the reason I would never teach at a high school is because I have seen my school and the way the students treat the teachers and the work, and just their general disinterest. I know what you mean about seeing that look in their eyes, but there are maybe one or two students in a class who...

Since yesterday morning, I have spilt coffee on myself, my carpet and my desk. I'm having a clumsy weekend. Yes...I love coffee. I think all writers do, and if they don't they should...It should be a rule. I started drinking coffee 2 years ago, I think. I'm in love with it now. Mmmm, Can't...

Turning your book passion into an occupation

I would never teach at a school, but I would teach at a writng group or writing school or mentor or something. I would LOVE to open a book store or work in one, but not a librarian. We laugh at our school librarians. Lani

Can anyone please suggest a book to read?

Derailed by James Seigel. Definitly one of my favourite books. Its a crime/Ithriller/mystery and it is has a second story in it set in a jail. Its a brilliant book...just made into a movie with Jenifer Aniston. I think he might enjoy it. Lani

    Undiscovered Wonders

ohhhhh. Stillriver by Andrew Rosenheim. One of my favourite novels. Brilliant. Michael Wolf felt he had escaped his past - Stillriver, the small town in Michigan where he grew up, his troubles with his father, the petty jealousies and competitiveness of his younger brother, and most of...

    Competitive Reading

I'm about to go into my final year of school and I find its still the same. We have a list of books to read over the holidays that we will be studying during the year, and I find that everyone in the year is asking everyone how much they have read. It's soooo frustating! I sign into MSN and...

Want to learn a new word every day.

Hey I, like every writer, am looking to improve my vocabulary. I have heard about websites that email you every day with a new word and definition. Do any of you know the websites? Or perhaps we can start a post where we all post new words and definitions. Lani

do you keep track of the books you read?

I made a list at the beginning of 2005. But I also added a list of books I read before that that were significant and moving. I love keeping track of the books I read. I also have a book where I write quotes from novels that I really like and that have some importance to me. Lani

What book(s) do you take on vacation?

Whenever I go away, I take a book by an author I have already read, and that I know is suspensful and addictive. Usually I take a Harlan Coben novel or a Michael Connelly. That way, I am always wanting to read. Last holiday, I took a novel from a new author that I heard good reviews on and...

'Unknown'. A short story...First time posting my writing.

By the time Anna had woken, the nurses were already hovering around her bed, collecting her things and putting them in bags. Anna sat up and looked around, conscious of every sound. "What's happening?" Anna asked, although she knew the answer. "You're moving to a better hospital where...
