Hey SFG75, I don't know if you are still around here, but I finally got around to readng Atlas Shrugged. The print was so small that it took me about two weeks to finish it, but I found it to be one one of the most important books I've ever read. Just thought I would post my Facebook review of...
I just finished The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy, and I wanted to share this review that I posted on my Visual Bookshelf on Facebook:
I picked up The Prince of Tides on a whim, and I'm glad I did because it is one of the most wonderful books I have EVER read. The first time I had heard of...
SFG75, I'm planning to read Atlas Shrugged soon... I have a few other books backed up, but I may put them off to read Atlas Shrugged.
I'd like to see Ellsworth Toohey moderate a town hall meeting on health care right now!
I just finished The Fountainhead... Here is the review I put on my Visual Bookshelf on Facebook:
What can I say about The Fountainhead? It's amazing and eye-opening, and an accurate picture of what's going on in our country today (even though it takes place in the early decades of the 1900s)...
I already saw a couple of the Jesse Stone movies before I started reading the books, so by the time I got into the series I already had a picture of Tom Selleck as Jesse Stone in my mind. I agree, Selleck doesn't look much like Jesse, but I do think he does a good job of capturing Jesse's...
That was when my disappointment set in with Cornwell too. I didn't mind about Benton Wesley coming back, but I just didn't like the third-person, present-tense style in which she started writing the books at that point. The latest book, Scarpetta, was probably better than any of her books since...
I agree about Patterson. I like him sometimes, and his books are easy to read. I have read a lot of the Alex Cross books, and a couple of the Women's Murder Club... But I think my favorite book of his was the mystery of the pregnant virgin (I can't think of what it was called).
Patricia Cornwell is probably my favorite... Though she's nowhere near as good as she used to be. I still read each new book hoping she'll recapture the magic. The early Scarpetta books are the best!
I also like Tami Hoag, Robert B. Parker, John Grisham and Lisa Jackson. I used to like Iris...
Gone With The Wind is my favorite book... I love to read it and become totally wrapped up in Rhett and Scarlett's romance, and the drama of the war. Mitchell really makes all of the characters come to life, and makes you care about them. Everytime I read it, I still keep hoping it will end...
I just recently finished John Jakes's North & South trilogy (North & South, Love & War and Heaven & Hell). I enjoyed it quite a bit. Anyone else out there a fan?
I have read quite a few of John Grisham's books, though not all of them. My favorites are A Time To Kill, The Runaway Jury and The Last Juror. He is a good writer who is easy to read at the same time. Most of his books are pretty humorous at times too.
Parker is pretty good. I'd like to get into his Spenser series, sometime when I don't have so many other books backed up.
I bought The Fountainhead at one of those stores where everything is $1; I hadn't even heard of it at the time. I'm almost done with it. I like the story pretty well, even...
I like to read crime novels, and also some westerns and other historical fiction. My favorite book is actually Gone With The Wind. Some of my favorite authors are Patricia Cornwell, Tami Hoag, John Grisham, Robert B. Parker, and many more general fiction authors. I also like some political books...
