    What College Students are Reading

I would also add that they think of Harry Potter as the fun content, while school reading is "work". Thus, they wouldn't list it.

Lord of the Rings on Blu-Ray

I've seen the Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers extended, but not the Return of the King. Either way, the Blu-ray version should make the amazing battle scenes look detailed, vivid, and beautiful.

    Current Non-Fiction reads

I'm reading The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, and am going to be starting Truman by David Mccullough soon after it. Gladwell is doing a fantastic job of creating unique concepts and exploring how social marketing and "epidemics" work. however, it isn't a text you could use a reference...

    Something wicked this way comes

I love that novel. I'm not a fan of the grim, macrabe story, but this one really hit home. It's portrayal of the nature of evil was chilling.

Rick Warren; The Purpose Driven Life

I read this book when I was younger. It certainly sparked a deeper faith, especially in understanding the different elements. But as I have matured in age and faith, I found it to be shallower, and full of inconsistencies I do think that there are some problems in his theology. Despite my...

Enchantress Among the Stars- Mary Louise Engdahl

I recently finished this YA science fiction novel, and found it fascinating. The story is of a girl who was raised in a futuristic culture, and is studying a medieval culture that is coming into contact with another culture that iwishes to colonize and control these people, whom they see as...

    Anyone Else Practice "Random Reading"?

That sounds like an interesting idea. It would be a enthralling experiment, testing the random factor to see what you like. But what if, like Anemnesis said, you're picky? I don't want to waste my life reading a meaningless novel. What do you think?

    Weird Book

I think Help, A bear is eating me! was the best. The rest of the books seemed to sexual in nature for me to even consider.

    Swap.com

Are there any other Swap.com users here? I recently discovered this website, which trades music, books, movies, and video games 1-for-1, so that you can use your old media to get new media. I've been doing it for 3 months now, and have received many, many excellent books, including Speaker for...

Thomas L. Friedman: The World is Flat (Expanded/Revised ed.)

I read it two years ago, and found it captivating. It's ideas changed the way I look at business, politics, and technology. However, I read the first edition, so I couldn't talk about the updates.

What does reading a book mean to you?

I read for both pleasure, education, and a stretching of the mind. I find books make it easier for me to talk to others, and to understand why certain people think the way they do.

Real Men Read; program to encourage literacy

I live in Omaha, and it's excellent to see this as a trend. Having men teach them, especially men who they can relate to, will also have a positive effect. Can anyone think of other examples of this kind of program in other states?
