    Ahdaf Soueif: Aisha

Well although Jordan and Egypt are two different countries and traditions migth slightly differ among them, names are the easiest to spot (names of friends, neighbors, actresses, writers, etc.) and from my observation, common names are similar in both (for example in Moroccan countries, it's a...

It's the picture Yahoo uses it on their mail page to advertise it. I have to look at her every time I'm signing in.

and now for something completely different

Yesterday, I dreamt that a man I used to be in love with won the lottery and got 30 millions. That's strange because in reality I want to see him fall and break his neck! I once dreamt that the sky was raining pasta! Very horrifying to see those pointy things dropping from the sky!

    Your Titanic

I nicked this topic from another board but I doubt they will mind there. Who will be on your titanic? My list is George W. Bush and all the 3 million people who voted for him Britney Spears and all her future unborn children Donald Trump/tramp Randy Yoh-Man from American Idol...

    Ahdaf Soueif: Aisha

I've just finished reading Aisha and though at some parts I found it entertaining, in the whole it was disturbing and unsettling. Soueif's writing style is quite solid. The way she masters the Arabic narrative style (of flowing physical description) with flawless English is quite fascination...

    '... I don't get it!'

Never liked the Bronte sisters. I find their writing such a bore or melodramatic. Though I think Woolf is a great intellectual and groundbreaking writer of her time, but it seems if one reads one of her fiction, one has read all. I prefer her nonfiction.

    What dreams may come

Hope it's a correct quote. Do you believe in dreams as signs? Do you take your dreams seriously? I love hearing about dreams and like to read or see movies in which dreams are narrated (there was a fascinating dream scene in Mothman Prophesies which I saw yesterday). I had a friend who said she...

Thanks for all your tips and advice. I do feel like I shouldn't bother get my light shirts for the summer months (esp in comparison to here when on cool days, it's in low 30s). If any of you will be studying in Jordan, don't hesitate to ask :P

    Been to Warwick?

Thanks for your replies. They're all quite helpful as I was totally in the dark and confused about my decision. I would take your advice on going with on campus accommodation to settle down (since most likely I have to move out later on). I am from Jordan which is also expensive but probably not...

    Been to Warwick?

I've been offered a place in the University of Warwick, starting Fall and I've decided to accept it. I've been browsing online for some information about Warwick where I'll be living in the next three years, still it would be even more helpful if I can get information from people who've actually...

    What's your favorite movie scene?

Donnie Darko the first time Donnie sees the transparent portals Being John Malkovich The monkey's childhood flashback with subtitles. That was hilarious! Braveheart the last 'Freedom' call scene because it was the only scene worth seeing (big budget crap movies) Sixth Sense the scene when...

ما هو افضل كتاب قراته بالعربية ؟

I can't name just one but Kanafani's Returning to Haifa and the poetry of Nazeeh Abu Afash stands out. I loved Naguib Mahfouz's Ibn Fatouma and the Trilogy and though haven't finished Ahlam Mustaghanmi's Thakerat Jasad, it has to be one of the most fascinating books written recently. I've always...

    Kurt Vonnegut: Slaughterhouse-Five

The scene in which the aliens explain to Billy how the universe will/has ended is one of my all time favorites. I've just finished Cat's Cradle which I couldn't put down. It's an amazing and very absorbing novel. I think Vonnegut has the gift of making me laugh while I know I should be crying...
