I try and stay away from anything liquid...I tend to try and reach for my drink while still continuing to read and end up knocking something over...and a few times it's gone on my books... so for me reading a drinking just don't mix.
Do you think you are better then others because you won't lower your self to read material meant for "children" well guess what if someone chooses to read something more light hearted they are completly entitled too and you making a stupid remark such as going to the 'adult menu' over the...
If the book was really good, I get a little upset that it's over, right now I am reading a 950 page book, and i'm at 650 and i know the end is coming, and because i am enjoying it so much, i dread that the end is near! But if it is a book that someone I know has read, I will call them to...
I absolutly love british humour! In books and movies and in conversation, and what's even funnier is when people are insulting someone with british humour and they just don't understand. It's an art and either you get it or you don't!
I think having similar interests is important, but like some said if he/she doesn't like reading then it is important to find something esle in common. But I also think that it is important to try and take interest in what your partner likes. For instance if she likes you go mountain biking...
Anthony Burgess, is a genius!
I just finished A Clockwork Orange and I loved it :p . I thought it was a real horrorshow! After reading about two pages the language becomes easy to read, and becuase of the different language of nadsat it makes it an entirely different world filled with...
I read Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat and I started reading Queen of the Damned, but I must admit...I loved Interview and I really liked Lestat, but the ending, to me wasn't very good. I didn't like the way Lestat became a rock star, to me it just took away from the whole...
I think everyone is missing one major point...that the world is getting LAZIER! For example...Kentucky Fried Chicken...DUMBED down to KFC, McDonald's, dumbed down to McD's, and because of this, people are reading less and less because it takes time. Like mehastings said, why read when you can...
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K Dick. I was really disappointed by that novel. I don't know if it was because I saw the movie Blade Runner about 10 times (being loosely based on the book)...but whatever the reason I just didn't like it.
I have read As I lay Dying by Faulkner, and it was really different. each chapter has a different narrating voice so you get every ones view of everything. You even get the view of a dead woman. But there are many funny moments and overall it was a really good read.
Madame Bovary by...
I would read The Da Vinci Code first, rather then Angels and Demons. They are similar but I found that the Da Vinci Code was more interesting. I know a lot of people in this fourm don't like either of the books, but I did, and I found I like the Da Vinci Code better.
I, like many others, recommend Alexandre Dumas, but I recommend The Count of Monte Cristo. It was a really good book, way better than the movie. I would also suggest Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary. A lot of people suggest Balzac, but I didn't like him read I read him. I read Old Goriot and...
I have only read one of Wintersons novels and that was Written on the Body and I must say that I really enjoyed it. I liked the idea that the main character had no gender, and by his/her actions the gender could have been argued both ways. I found it interesting not to have a gendered...
I like to buy rather than borrow...I would rather be able to keep the book in case I ever decide to reread it, and if it's really good I can suggest it to someone and lend it out. I don't mind borrowing from someone I know, but I hate borrowing from the library, it gives to much pressure to...
I have only reread one book and that was Great Expectations. when i first read it, I liked it but I didn't love it, but after I reread it, it became one of my favourites. Other then that, I have to many books on my "to read list" that I haven't reread anything else, but there are some I...
I really like the HP books. But we all have to remember that the writing is not at all close to that of Viginia Woofe, but the books are written for children, and so the writing become a bit simplistic, so that all age groups can read and understand them.
I think the books progress well...
Book suggestions
I would suggest The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. It is short, and has a really weird ending, but it is a very interesting read. I have also read Crime and Punishment and the main character is isolated and depressed all the time.
Another one is White Oleander but I...
I am reading Birds of Prey by Wilbur Smith. I read a few of his books, and I found that I have to keep reading, once I finish one I start on another. So far the book is captivating and it keeps the reader interested. The book is fast paced and it's really hard to put down. If anyone has not...
I just finished reading, White Oleander and I have to say I was not impressed. It was recommended to me by a friend, and I read many reviews and a lot of people liked it. In my opinion, people only liked it because it had Opera's name on it and it became a movie. It was slow, boring, and a...
