Well, at the moment I'm in an Elizabeth Peters Phase, though I do enjoy authors like Garth Nix, Tamora Pierce (Well, I did when I was in fourth grade, and so it's more of a nostalgic liking) Meg Cabot (secret pleasure), and Douglas Adams.

These aren't the greatest books, but they make for a good pool-side read. The Hex series by Rhiannon Lassiter. They're science fiction but not quite so seriously science fiction that after the first five minutes you're wondering What the @#$@ is a decomposite velocity adjustment...
