yes indeed. i wonder if they give out energy star ratings for built-in bookshelves. that would be something.
update on my book collection numbers:
of the 488 books i've discovered around my house, 66 have never been read, and 29 are in various states of abandoned reading.
show cancellations that have left me emotionally bereft:
not yet mentioned:
ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
Twin Peaks
already mentioned:
Northern Exposure
Dead Like Me
Wonderfalls
Futurama
also:
some stupid show that i saw as a kid called Dolphin Cove. made me want to be a marine biologist.
it's...
i read a book during attack of the clones, which for me is the equivalent of walking out.
can't recall any other movies that i've had to do that with though. even with dvds, i don't turn them off, i just start doing something else.
i know a couple of people who walked out on the matrix...
i agree. good point.
for awhile, i really thought i wouldn't buy many tv sets, but i've already proven myself wrong several times over.
a good place for tv-dvd info is tvshowsondvd.com
i still need to give Medium a look. haven't seen that yet.
i saw the first few episodes of Commander in Chief and thought it was decent, but it had a time conflict with My Name is Earl for me, and Earl won.
House does get repetitive, but the biologist in me still loves it anyway. :D
Boston...
the latest development in the amazon connect program.
who didn't see this coming?
i think of all of amazon's latest ideas, i like the digital locker (buy the book, get the ebook also for $1 more) idea best.
what did i read? not nearly enough. :(
finished:
Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt
Interface by Neal Stephenson
halfway through:
The Third Policeman by Flann O'brien
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien
The Rule...
poke = private message. it's not quite as painful as it sounds. ;)
just didn't want to flood the forum with MOTM threads if we didn't have to. regardless though, i'm still wondering how much interest there is in this. 34 thread views in two days is promising i guess.
also, while i'm...
i think it would be don quixote for me. great read though.
and yeah george rr martin's stuff is long also, though again, highly enjoyable.
those are the best reads actually: where the writing is so good that regardless of how long the book is you still wish there was more.
true, movies are generally quicker to absorb. but it takes time for people to get ahold of a copy usually.
still, it could be two a month instead. or it could be themed months. like bill murray month or romantic comedy month.
i'll poke a mod to see if there are any spare subforums laying...
i'd guess around 500 in my house. plus a few thousand ebooks. :) i think i have the book addiction problem also...
nice article links. i flipped through The Not So Big House while at a bookstore once. it has some interesting ideas and designs.
if i had my way, every wall in my house would...
good points with the quality and subtitles. special features is another thing. and easter eggs.
i pop in a vhs tape every now and then and can't believe how terrible the quality is that i used to put up with. i'm definitely dvd spoiled.
any interest in doing something like this?
or any recommendations on someplace that does something like this?
it would be like the book of the month discussion...only a dvd or themed movie month instead...:o
just curious.
