How Many Books Do You Read in a Year (approx.)?

I usually only read 20 or so books in a year. I've decided to keep tally of the books and movies i read/watch this year. I expect the movies to be 200+ since I work at a movie theater now and get to watch movies for free. Hopefully I'll have time to get my book # up too.

    Stephen King: Lisey's Story

I haven't read the book yet, but it seems pretty logical. If your husband dies you'd probably be too upset to even look at his stuff, much less browse through them until at least a year later.

Suggestions: November 2006 Book of the Month

I'll suggest Stephen King's new one Lisey's Story that comes out October 24th. Here's the AMAZON.COM LINK you should definately check out, it shows a review by Nora Roberts and a brief description.

Buying a book you already have

Omg Pearl would you really waste $3.00 in gas to return your book even if they let you? I've never had this happen to me but I definately seems like an easy thing to do. Sometimes I'll buy cheap books I already own if my copy isn't in very good condition.

    Steve Irwin :(

Yeah, my dad called me at 9am just to tell me this! It really is sad, I loved his shows, too. I feel really bad for his family, especially his wife. dumb stingray!

When am I *ever* getting to those?

Yeah I have thousands of books that are on my Must-Read list, but usually I get distracted for something else and end up reading books that have never been on any list. Oh well... I'll get to them someday!

Which Pulitzer winning novels have you read?

I can now add A Death in the Family by James Agee. Absolutely superb, one of the best books I've read for sure.

James Agee: A Death In The Family

I just finished reading this incredible novel and thought I'd post to see if anyone else had read it and loved it as much as I did. I don't know that I've felt so impressed by a book like this since I read To Kill a Mockingbird. It was so amazingly well written and emotional, I'll never see...

    F. Scott Fitzgerald: The Great Gatsby

I'm surprised so many people didn't like this book. I thought it was really good! I could actually understand it, and the plot was good enough that I was actually wanting to read it instead of it feeling like a chore.

Is there anyone who doesn't care about the Dark Tower Series?

Oh my, what happened to this thread. . . Getting back on subtopic within the topic, I'll agree King writes blockbusters, not exactly meaty literature, but out of all the pop authors on the bestsellers list surely some of his stuff comes the closest to it. I'm not sure what an official...

top five on your TBR list?

I just finished this book and it is very good, definately worth picking up! As far as my top 5, they'd probably be something like this: 1. Christopher.. Paolini (sp?) - Eragon 2. Larry McMurtry - Lonesome Dove 3. Tim Winton - Dirt Music 4. Michael Ondaatie - The English Patient 5. Dean...

Can someone recommend some good Thrillers for me?

I always look for some Crichton whenever I'm in the mood for a thriller. Prey and Jurassic Park are especially outstanding.

    Wonderful, wonderful books

I agree, whenever I'm in the middle of a juicy thick novel my days do seem to go by better. Anytime I'm reading a really, really good book I usually bring it with me everywhere and relish those blank moments where I can read. Yay for amazing books!

    Wonderful, wonderful books

I tend to agree that when I'm in a hot read, usually a very lengthy novel, life does seem just a little bit better. It is interesting that when I'm involved with an amazing book, I carry it with me everywhere, while the only okay books usually get left at home on the stand waiting for a spare...

Is there anyone who doesn't care about the Dark Tower Series?

It's so interesting for me to hear what books people liked and disliked in the series. Though I don't understand how anyone could find "The Drawing of the Three" weak. I consider it to be perhaps King's greatest accomplishment, even up there with It and The Stand.

Is there anyone who doesn't care about the Dark Tower Series?

Yeah this post is absolutely pointless. If you haven't read the series why should it be important that you "don't care about it"? I've read them all and enjoyed all 7 immensely.

Ooh I Am Legend sounds good, I'll give it a 2nd.. How about William Peter Blatty - The Exorcist?

Which Pulitzer winning novels have you read?

I have several in my to-read stack, too, but here are the ones I have read: To Kill A Mockingbird - really good, this is definately just one of those books everyone should read, though it's not my all-time favorite or anything. The Old Man and the Sea - Short, but powerful. It has a deep...

    Books on writing

I'm not familiar with Jack London's writing book, but I can definately recommend King's book.
