Avater

Hello all, I am having problems finding an avater to use on here. I need one to fit and I would like it to either be a picture of a rainbow or rainbow colors etc. If anyone could help I would be happy. Thanks :)

You do realize that "rainbow colors" is kind of a symbol for homosexual orientation right?

Not that there's anything wrong with that...just something you may wish to to keep under consideration.

 I did not know that, I'm sorry if I offend anyone with that.

Anyone offended by you choosing a rainbow avatar is close minded regardless of where they land in the sexual orientation spectrum.

I usually make my own avatars out of pictures or in a program like photoshop, photo editor or even paint. It is easy to shrink something down so that it is small enough.

I don't think you would offend anyone, and certainly not somebody like me. I just wondered if you knew that little tidbit of information...and obviously you didn't.

Take it for what it's worth. Use the rainbow if you want.

If you don't have photoshop or something similar, there are a few free programs out there that specialise in making avatar sizings. I used Avatar Sizer. It makes it easy to set the maximum pixel dimensions.

And as to rainbows being a symbol of gay culture... well, that's true. But as mehastings says, anyone leaping to any conclusions is a fool. Since when did a scientific phenomena get copyrighted to a lifestyle choice? I think Motokid just wanted to be sure you were aware of that, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Do a search on 'rainbow' using Google Image search. Or have a play in Paint. Just remember not to make it too detailed as it will end up very small.

(Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with the company behind Avatar Sizer and am not promoting them. I just found their shareware nifty!)

I didn't know that! I knew the pink symbol, but didn't know about the rainbow. Well, you learn something new every day. :)

I knew about the rainbow being a gay symbol, but that doesn't mean didly-squat. Use whatever you want (within reason) as your avatar :)

I'm actually offended that you would think that offensive...

lies - I hope you're not serious about that?! (Okay, just saw the smiley - all good!)

I think Rainbowgurl was just shocked that she might have said something wrong or offensive and so she appologised. Motokid's reply to her original post was a little confronting, although I know he meant well:

I usually use "..." as an indication of a trailing thought, but I figured I'd better put in a smiley before all hell broke loose. I remember one very ugly episode where I said something along the lines of "poor American sods" (without the smiley) and it didn't go down too well.

Still, I think that there's something fundamentally wrong if your first reaction at someone thinking you're gay would be to apologize.

Heh - yeah, smileys are real important when you don't know how someone usually writes, eh? I've had some issues with that too!

I don't think that's what Rainbowgurl meant. I think she thought she was possibly using the symbol in an offensive manner and was appologising for that. Or at least that's how I took it.

I think rainbows are pretty! ^_^

I knew about the homosexual thing, but I don't think that's automatically the first thing people assume when they see a rainbow. Perhaps it depends on the context? Like a bumper sticker...I'd be more inclined to associate it that way. But if it's an avatar for someone who has the word, "rainbow" in her name, I'd associate it with "Hey! She's trying to match her name!" Just like if someone named "OkapiKid" had an okapi avatar.

Man...why didn't I think of the name OkapiKid when I registered back in the day? lol

Is this:

"You do realize that "rainbow colors" is kind of a symbol for homosexual orientation right?

really confrontational....?????

I was just pointing out a simple bit of info that I assumed (correctly I might add) that RG did not know.

Is that really confrontational??? Really???

--what a trivia,I didn't know that either,I love rainbow colors, see my avvy, and if you'll visit my blog, it has a rainbow background as well, just like in my siggy. :), the reason why I used it is bec I'm so fickleminded and I don't know what colors I want,so rainbow suit my taste. :)

just a little annotation here, that flag is called a diversity pride flag
i knew it but found it funny, specially because there is a little something else in rg theme that adds, but im not telling  :D
