I just started reading "The Davinci Code" for the first time. I know, I am behind the times:( So far, so good.

TC

I just started The DaVinci Code myself. I'm kinda bored with it so far but then I'm only 25 pages into it. So I guess I'll read more and see what happens.

I've read all his books except Deception Point.
Actually I've tried to read it. and stopped after 50 pages. but I'll give it another shot.

I think people like his books coz it talks about interesting subjects. not because he has a great writing style.
I dunno nothing about writing style actually. All I know is that he knows what things to use in order to get people all excited about his books.

You mean, by being manipulative and misleading? That's all he does.

no! I ment that he used subjects that interests people like scandals and stuff like that.

but misleading and manipulative.. I dunno ..

I really like his books so it's hard for me to think that way :D

I agree that he is misleading - the statement at the beginning of the books assuring readers of the accuracy of the 'facts' presented cannot be anything but - but manipulative? Can you explain?

He twists everything he writes so that it comes out in a certain way to make you think a certain thing, and then he uses that manipulation to surprise the reader by revealing what really is going on. He also foreshadows too much, and not always accurately. Lots of mystery writers use manipulation as a writing tool, but Dan Brown is especially obnoxious.

Ah, now that I see where you are coming from I agree :)

I have a theory about Dan Brown's work, and tell me if you agree. It has to do with Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code. I totally believe that whichever you read first, is your favorite, and that you will think the follow-up (whichever that may be) will pale in comparison. I read Angels and Demons first and loved it. I could hardly put it down. However, I thought that The Da Vinci Code was not as good. My husband read them in the reverse order (Da Vinci Code before Angels and Demons), and thought that Angels and Demons was the worse of the two.

*Note: My husband does not read, so in order for him to actually finish two books within a six month period, impressed me. *lol*

I can't agree with you - I read the first page of Da Vinci Code and I thought it was over simplistic and crass...not my cuppa

I'm almost afraid to read Brown's next book. I've read a lot of quality novels since his last book and I'm wondering what I'll do if I read it and find myself agreeing with Stewart?

The Lost Symbol

It seems that Browns next novel is finally coming out.

Six years after the release of his mega-selling The Da Vinci Code, the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group announced that Brown's The Lost Symbol, a thriller set during a 12-hour period and featuring Da Vinci Code symbolist Robert Langdon, will come out in September.

The first printing will be 5 million copies, Knopf Doubleday said Monday, a modest number considering that The Da Vinci Code has sold more than 80 million worldwide and inspired a spinoff community of travel books, diet books, parodies and religious works.

I read ¨The Da Vinci Code¨and thought it was an ok book - it kept me turning the pages! I then started to read ¨Angels and Demons¨and thought I was rereading ¨The Da Vinci Code¨ - I couldn´t finish the book. I also started to read ¨Digital Fortress¨ but that is an aborted attempt. I find all his books are the same and I won´t be reading any more!
