Hello everyone,
My name is Maria. Marie if you like, I'm partial to both. Just not Mary, for some reason I don't really like that one. Well obviously I'm a newbie. I'm pretty excited. I don't have many friends who like to read like I do. I love reading different things. I try to be as intellectual as possible but I honestly believe that being the social butterfly I am, it prevents me from my full potential. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, I would probably be a lot smarter if I didn't party so much. Although, I'd like to think I have nice little balance. I do like when people can type a grammatically correct sentence, but at the same time, I too am lazy and do at times, use the lazy way of typing such as "wat r u doin?" and i do like lol. sorry.

Moving on, I just like to read for fun. I like the occasional debate and break down on a book. That's always fun. But really, I read to relax and escape the stresses of daily life.

I'm pretty into Japanese culture as well as other asian cultures. I'm half Filipino so I'm pretty sure it stems from there. I want to open my own Geisha House/restaurant but there's one in Hollywood already. But I think I might do something else with that.

Other things I enjoy:
-Manga
-Anime
-Movies
-Dancing
-clubs/bars
-drinking
-the occasional recreational drug
-any type of recreational social gathering really
-acting
-stand up comedy (i've done a few shows in my hometown of el centro, i even got to meet Brad Williams from 'Mind of Mencia')

That pretty much sums me up. There's a lot more to me you just have to figure out for yourself. Ok well I think I've written enough. Hope to get know you guys! Take care! ^_^

P.s. I would more than love book suggestions. Duh, that's one of the main reasons I joined. So please, if you read the most amazing book ever and just want to tell everyone, please, your more than welcome to suggest it. I can pretty much guarantee I will read it.

the mummy

Oh very much so! i loved it. I love history and supernatural type stuff so it was perfect for me. Then again, it's Anne Rice, I think so far there have been 2 books that were kind of just 'eh' to me. Have you read "The Mummy?" And I noticed the book your reading, is it good so far?? It sounds interesting, I think I'll check it out.

Welcome to the forums!

Hmm, Asian culture books. I finished Women of the Pleasure Quarters a couple months ago. It was good. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan was a great read, and I'm partial to The Secrets of Jin-Shei even if it does take place in a fictional world. The Good Earth is classic, too.

But for books that I really love, Diane Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale is definitely among them.

I read The Mummy several years ago. Not bad, but I prefer her vampire novels (specifically, the first five Vampire Chronicles and Pandora). What were the two Rice novels that you were "eh" about?

Oh, and the book I'm reading now is quite good so far. The author paints a nice picture of ancient Egypt without going over-the-top in his descriptions. It seems like it's going to be an easy and entertaining read.

Thanks! I'm glad I found this place. I love reading and it's great to share it with people since i don't have many friends who enoy it like i do. ok well have a good one!

The first one I wasn't to excited over was Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt and I think it wa The Vampire Armand one. I was never to partial to Armand but of course read it to read the series completely. With "Christ" it just felt like I was waiting for all the drama and excitement like in her other books and then next thing I knew it was finished. Basically, it was just a pretty normal kind of book. I was expecting some twisted stuff with Jesus as a kid. But it wasn't too bad. I did like the ending. Anyway, I think that was a long enough reply :]] take care!
