Historical Fiction: The Authors?

I am slowly falling in love with a new genre - Historical Fiction. The problem is that I don't really know who are the top guns in this type of writing. Can you help?

And please don't post Phillipa Gregory!! yuk!

I read a few of her books. A Break With Charity was my favorite :D.

Aqua Blue, you should try Rosalind Miles. Her novel I, Elizabeth is a great book about Queen Elizabeth I. There is some romance but plenty of intrigue and even a few bits of clever wordplay.
 
Jeffery Shaara writes great Civil War fiction,

Troy Soos for the sports/mystery fan

Naomi Novik writes more fantastical/historical fiction (Napoleanic/sword and sorcery type stuff)

Todd Jones (WWII)

Gregory Kauffman has written of South American exploration.
