"3, 2, 1 .... Frankie Go Boom"

Frank Bartlett has been tortured, embarrassed, and humiliated by his brother Bruce -- usually on film -- his entire life. Now that Bruce is finally off drugs and has turned his life around, things should be different. They are not.

IMDB

Honestly this movie is one of those really weird quirky films that isn't to every one's taste but if you can set aside any inherent prejudices to the .... um .... 'weirdness' it is quite a sweet story of how 'love conquers all'.

Seen this week:

Cheerful Weather for The Wedding

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheerful_Weather_for_the_Wedding_(film)

Kind of poignant.

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Very_Harold_&_Kumar_3D_Christmas

Sorry I know these are something that should not be mentioned but Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle is so genuinely funny that I gave this one a shot. Being the third one in the series it isn't quite as funny as the first but I still laughed at most of it.

Damsels in Distress

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damsels_in_Distress

I'm still trying to figure out what to say about this one. It is funny. Way off-beat. Innocent and yet not. Needs rewatching I think to get the full flavour of it.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss_Kiss_Bang_Bang

One of the funniest movies I have seen. Robert Downey Jnr's acting is always a delight and whilst I'm not the biggest fan of Val Kilmer this has to be the funniest role he has played as 'Gay' Perry the Private Dick.

Men Who Stare at Goats

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Men_Who_Stare_at_Goats_(film)

REALLY funny, poignant, sad commentary on a genuine episode in American military history, as well a slightly pathos filled social commentary on the war in the Middle East (pick one or all). Military Intelligence is indeed an oxymoron.

We saw Before Sunrise and Before Sunset (the 9 year follow up to Before Sunrise) the other day. Starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. Character driven, conversation films, each covering less that 24 hours. How it affected their lives. Another one, Before Midnight is coming out this year, I believe next month. Wonderful, slow moving films.

Also watched The Man From Earth http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0756683/
Interesting.

We've seen Dinner With Andre, one long conversation, but fascinating in it's own way, and last night we watched the first of the Star Wars films. I mean the way, way back one, first of the original trilogy. Gawd, Harrison Ford was bloody young! lol
Of course we all were....then. :D

I'm still missing a copy of the Clone Wars one in my collection. IMHO the 'last / first' three were not as good as the original three.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. A little predictable but still a good movie

You should read the book. a. it is totally different although you can see where they took a few elements from it for the film here and there b. its just as good in a different way.

We watched a couple of episodes of the Original Star Trek tonight, one was The Trouble with Tribbles...still funny! :D

Hitchcock with Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren and Scarlett Johansson.

I thought it was pretty good, but not great.

I really like both actors, but have had reservations about that film. I seem to have read something to the effect it twisted some points. Besides, if Hitch was a womanizer, I, frankly don't want to know. heh
