Rented Closer and it was a royal waste. Libertine, promiscuous couples cheating with one another and playing out little dramatic scenes with their wronged boyfriends/girlfriends. Hideous movie, don't rent it or you'll regret it. If you like it, I will PM you to question your moral character.

uno momento . . . I think I agree with you for once in a bloody lifetime. Closer was suck. I agree with your comments here, SFG. Why?, is the question I must ask myself.

Hmmm... I don't know. The movie left me feeling really depressed. The women seemed so pathetic and the men seemed like such a-holes. I think the moral of the story is that American women should never try to have a relationship with a Brit.

I'm kidding of course. But I thought it was an interesting movie. And for many reasons, I did like it & watched it a second time. I await your PM. :p

Libra-I'm not surprised since you and another member who PM'd me to say he liked it (to keep him anonymous, I'll refer to him as P_d_r, ):D also enjoyed those smutty Nabokov books.;) :p :D The B&R Members for a Decent Society chapter will be meeting later to discuss just how low you and P_d_r's morals are in regards to literature and movies.;)

novella-I'm speechless as well. Give me a minute.

Seriously though, how many times can you possibly show a scene where the woman cheats and the man demands to know everything!? I honestly believe that hollywood directors are a bunch of closet pervs who unfortunately, broadcast filth like this out into the open. I also believe they think everyone else likes like they do. Getting off of my moral soapbox, or is it pulpit?, I will say that it was too predictable and definitely contrived-no real emotion or anything.

Absolutely nauseating.

I watched most of Marie Antoinette yesterday, but didn't finish it because it was due back. Beautifully done, but I just wasn't in the mood for it, I think.

I got my husband to watch The Holiday with me this last weekend and we were both pleasantly surprised. I was expecting just another chick flick, which is fine by me, but it was far more than that. I think I'll go out and buy this one.

I watched V for Vendetta last week and totally loved it. I really liked the script and enjoyed the acting as well. This movie hasn't been mentioned much here - anyone else see this?

Spiderman 3.....euucchhh!!

I wouldn't go QUITE that far, but...

Now, I love Sam Raimi. How much do I love Sam Raimi? I'll defend Crimewave and The Quick And The Dead any day of the week. Just so you know. But this may be his dullest feature film to date (except for that baseball movie with Kevin Costner which I refuse to watch).

There's so much here that could have been interesting, if not very unique - pride going to little dork Peter's head, his dark side as manifested by Venom, Harry's attempts to live up to or live down his father... but it's all wasted. Take the two scenes where PP opens a bag to get out first the black and later the red suit; should have been pivotal points in the story, but they're not since Raimi is too busy directing special fx to bother setting up any conflict between the two. And while McGuire has never been a Great Actor, surely he should be able to show emotions in SOME other way than to bawl like a schoolgirl or strut arond town in eyeliner?

I want to say the Sandman subplot is a pointless excuse for more special fx that only rehashes the events of Spiderman 1, but come to think of it - it provides the only thing in this rather vapid 2 1/2 hours that actually sticks with me afterwards and refuses to let go. Namely, this question:

Why the hell is Sandman unable to do anything except roar like King Kong when he grows to King Kong size?

OK, so it's still got some of the trademark Raimi comic-book humour, visual extravaganzas and The Bruce in one of his best cameos in a long time (been studying John Cleese in The Meaning of Life, eh Bruce?) so I'll give it 2/5. But no more.

DVD: Casino Royale
I liked it. Eva Green is incredibly attractive and I was surprisingly NOT disappointed with Daniel Craig. 3.5 out of 5 I guess.

Spider-Man 3

This was a complete disappointment!

Being a Spider-Man fan for 12 years now and having fond memories of the thousand of comics I read (and sometimes still do), I found this a complete waste of great opportunities. They messed up Venom; they messed up Harry Osborne trying to live up to his father's legacy; they messed up Gwen Stacy (what was she doing in the movie?). This movie had all the elements to be the greatest Spider-Man movie yet, and it was rubbish!

The Sandman was the only villain they captured right, and still they messed it up by connecting him to Ben Parker's murder. Only good thing in this movie is that it made me dig out all my old Spidey comics from my closet for a nostalgic reading.

Feast. Bloodier than Hostel, and a better movie as well. There were some slow spots, yes, but for the most part I thought it was great.

Theater:
Spiderman 3: There were a lot of cringe-worthy scenes. Every "romantic" scene was horrible. I remember turning to my friend in the beginning and whispering, "I feel so embarassed watching this!"
But I was really happy to see Topher Grace & Bryce Dallas Howard... They really crammed in a lot of stuff into the movie...
It was cute seeing B.B. (Kill Bill 2) too...

DVD:
Borat
The Illusionist - my boyfriend & I felt insulted by whoever wrote this. Did they really think that we wouldn't know how this would end? May as well have been a one hour thing on television. But the cinematography was amazing.
The Prestige - better than The Illusionist.

I've seen Spiderman 3 and enjoyed it. I find it the typical type of a movie that you go to the theater and watch. There is action, drama and suspense plus, the idea and story line is simple and suitable for all ages. It was a good movie. I'd give it 7/10

Hmm.. I mean, I was excited about this at first... but you know... just because it has all those elements doesn't necessarily mean that it all worked well. In my opinion of course. ;) And I love Sam Raimi... But man... those song & dance scenes... [shudders] I'll give it a 5/10 (or 2.5/5 - whatever) ... it wasn't horrible, but I'd never buy it on DVD & I probably won't want to waste my time ever watching it again. I was just disappointed. :(

I agree with you here, I wouldn't buy it either.

Speaking of watching movies again, there are two movies that were amazing that I watched in the theater: Blood Diamond and 300. These are one of the best movies for this year, including the Departed.

I miss going to the theater, but during this period I can't... it's not safe to be out at night. The situation is insecure :(

Ocean's 13 .. Its was Awesome ..

  NNNnooooo!!! I want to watch this movie. I have been waiting for it forever! I'm a very big fan of Ocean's movies. I've seen them a couple of times, plus the soundtrack is great. I love every aspect of the movie; the people, the characters, the conversations, the plot, the squence, the music....everything!

Ocean 13 will be in theater on the 21st of June. Hope the situation would be better...

Last night I watched Pan's Labyrinth. Good and freaky. If you want strange nightmares about facist Spain than don't delay.

Tonight I watched "The Dinner Game," a great French comedy about jerks who make fun of other people.

Both were subtitled. I guess I like to read even while watching movies. Hm.

I watched Sharpe's Eagle. I love the Sharpe movies. ^_^

I also watched Lara Croft, Tomb Raider. It's been awhile. When I seen the sequel, I liked the original slightly better, but I think that opinion is switched now.
